I LOVE my little fluffy butts! We have four silkies, including a necked neck. As well as two frizzles and a sultan. They honestly have me wrapped around their little claws.
First and foremost - ABSOLUTELY NO HATING ON SILKIES ALLOWED!!! If you aren’t here to support our fuzzy friends, don’t respond.
Silkies get a bad rap for the following:
"Looks like a dust mop"
"Too hard to maintain"
"Poor immune system"
"Dumber than rocks"
"0 predator awareness"
And oh, so much more.
Well my friends - I thought so too, until I actually got silkies for myself. These are some of the most wonderful birds out there.
I’ve found them to be highly heat tolerant, wonderful mothers, having the strongest immune systems in my Bantam flock, GREAT LAYERS (that’s right folks), adorable as all get out, and more.
I currently have 9 silkies - and my rooster has been nothing but a gentleman to his ladies. They free range daily and I’ve not had a silkie get killed by a predator yet. My hens average 5 eggs a week - not too bad for a silkie, eh?
Most of the time, these silkie haters haven’t even owned the breed, but rather pretend they know everything.
So... let the fun begin! Support our silkies!
Pictures always welcome.
Be mindful, and respect others...
Off-topic discussions are allowed, though try to maintain the subject of silkies.

The one on the right looks like a D'uccle egg to me, and i have a silkie and a polkie laying a light tan egg like yours (even though they typically should be white). Eggciting!!New layer in banty land! Not sure if it’s from the silkies or D’Uccles (or our other three bantys). The silkies are impossible for me to judge maturity! I only keep bearded and none of them have a hint of comb. Well, one is a single comb and it’s black, so who knows lol. The D’Uccles have just recently popped bright red combs though. Anyone want to guess? My husband would kill me if I started incubating already… I promised my mom no new animals until after she watches our kids in February as well
New egg at left, right egg is also unknown technically. It was laid a few months ago

Aww shes soooo pretty!! Im glad she's doing better. Maybe she got startled and overwhelmed!Buttons is ok! Super hungry when I fed her vitamin mash then perked up! I gave her a short haircut around the eyes and she's all ok!! I feel so bad I let her fluffy crest grow so much maybe that was her problem.. there was also poison mushrooms in the chicken area she may have eaten, I have dig them all up now.
