We have 2 black silkies that are about 4mos old :)

Curious question, what is the normal weight for y'alls silkies?? Mine are so light despite unlimited access to feed. They're averaging 1.7-1.9lb...

That sounds fine. They aren't supposed to be more than 2 pounds for a female and 2 pounds 4 ounces for a male.

It's one of my lavender partridge.

Oh wow!
The breeder I got my buffs from said a grandmother had some porcelain in her...and I am beyond excited to see the lavender (I sure pray that's what this is) showing up in his tail and crest!
What ya think!?!
It's the cockrel on the right....16 weeks old

If it had 2 copies of lavender, you'd have a blue cream aka porcelain since that is lavender over buff. It looks pretty much the same as my lavender partridge. Lavender is a recessive gene and takes two copies to show. I've never had a male of either color so no examples to show.

I do not sell mine as it's too close to the blue cream which is a named color that is working towards acceptance. Don't want to muddy any genetics. I didn't purposely breed them and have worked to eliminate the gene from my flock.

2 blue cream and a lavender partridge (she has big crest). They look pretty much the same. All look rather sun bleached in this picture.

Oh they are beautiful!
Interesting Info...i keep forgetting that blue cream is the more acceptable term in Silkies rather than porcelain.

And with that in mind I have been working towards obtaining buff, lavender and porcelain to breed.
So I got super excited when I found out these buffs may very well have the lavender gene!!!
Here's what I have to work with in girls currently:

GIRLS
  • 1 lavender/black split bantam Cochin
  • 1 buff Silkie (may have same gene as above boy)
  • 3 porcelain Belgium d'uccles
All for breeding with that boy...pic for reference of him from video.
I'm completely new to breeding so I welcome all feedback from you experienced ones!!!

APA states that porcelain color has the mille fleur pattern. Silkies don't have that so the blue cream name.
