My two little gals just started laying a couple weeks ago!! They’re the most adorable, tiny eggs we’ve ever had lol.

I collected this egg yesterday that is speckled but the spots are almost blue/purple/grey in person. Our old silkies used to occasionally lay brown speckled eggs but I’ve never seen this colour. Just wondering if anyone knows why - I thought all silkies would produce brown spots on a speckled egg.

Probably excessive bloom. Some hens have that. On a marans it makes for purple eggs. Makes for a pretty basket.

My first two silkies laid only white eggs, but my current silkie and polkie (polish/silkie cross) both lay tan like yours. I see spots occasionally on the tan eggs, but usually not. Might just be the printer ink getting going.

My first chick to hatch in the second batch is fuzzier (F1) than the pure silkie chick (partridge) I picked up yesterday. F1 and a few F2s.View attachment 3433436View attachment 3433437View attachment 3433438
Looks like I got a lot of bearded babies and poofy tops plus feathered legs!
They are going to be pretty! Love the blue 💙

Talk about one dedicated dad.. Excuse the mess, I didn't get cleaning done yesterday.. Here's Shadow Captain fulfilling his dadly duties. He tends to the chicks while the mom's are roosting in other areas now. He's done this 4 hatches in a row! Silkies are the best!

That's so sweet!🥰

Little over half of today's eggs. It's still muddy here so they are actually pretty clean.

The blue eggs are a project. As adults there isn't any distinction between the F-4s and the actual partridge silkies. Even some of the F-3s are very good. If they weren't such a mess from playing outside I'd get pictures, but silkies and water equals messy crests.
