Hello everyone. Happy to have found this thread. I love Silkies. Been raising them for the past 2 year and finally this year was able to keep a roo. Now I started hatching babies. It’s so addictive ❤️.

Welcome to the thread

Hi silkie lovers,
I have this this color silkie and I was wanting to get her and my laced winged satin a rooster to fertilize the eggs. What color rooster would you guys suggest? I would like to make beautiful babies but unsure what color rooster would creat the best looking offspring! I've debated this for a while so I thought I'd ask some experts!

Buff would get you lighter. If you want mixed color chicks for a colorful flock, it's best to find a pretty, mixed light colored rooster. If I wanted just pretty, Id use a blue cream (aka porcelain) rooster.

White isn't the best choice because actual silkie white is recessive white which only shows with 2 copies. Those are usually some type of partridge underneath. Whites from paint breeding are dominant white which shows with one copy.

Thank you I really like the buffs and reds, I'm hoping if I mix that with her I would just get some pretty mixtures! I would just be worried about my laced wing satin silkie- being black and white, I'm not really sure what her babies would look like with a buff or red roo?
