Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

No idea. I only know a little about the blue cream and how it expresses.

I know lots about partridge but have never found an answer to why silkies have orange males show up. So my knowledge is limited

We were so disappointed. It's hard to imagine this was what that rooster looked like as a chick. He was a beautiful little chipmunk we thought would look like his mother maybe or be lighter.




His mother. (Pet quality.) White silkie rooster was dad.

That's standard partridge color for males. Only females have the brown like the mother.

White silkies are recessive white. Need two copies to show. Usually they are a partridge underneath the white because it's basically chicken default color in it's wild type. It doesn't dilute color.

Yes. Male color for several color varieties. Wheaten looks the same as well.

His dad is a white satin rooster. I should have mentioned the satin part. I have this small flock (8) from the first silkies we started with, which were hatchery or pet quality. We were donated the first 3 eight years ago.

About two years ago, I stopped hatching those and paid dearly for hatching eggs from exhibition breeders. I'll never show btw, just want to try to raise some.

Yesterday I hatched 35 mostly my silkies, and half were from a breeder. I wasn't planning to keep any as they would be what I already have, except 2 paints and this one.

It looks partridgish, but isn't the typical chipmunk silkies are when hatched.

Yup, partridge of some kind. Its front is solid, that creme color. I should have gotten more pictures but had it up there for two minutes and I was freezing my tush off lol. Pretty sure a pullet but too early to be sure.

My goodness it's gorgeous! I'm also getting pullet vibes from the picture.
It does look a lot like my Nova! I'll have to get some updated pictures of Nova and all the others soon.

You're welcome! They definitely are beautiful! I knew when I bought my hatching eggs there was a small potential for silver partridge, but when only 3 out of the 12 eggs hatched I figured my chances were pretty slim. Mine are only pets but I'll probably hatch some of their eggs in the spring!
