SILKIES ~ Updated pics on page17

So are you saying they can but shouldn't be mixed in the same coop with big fat farm hens???

Can you trim the 'hair/feathers' around the face when it's poofy and covering their eyes? that ball up there will drive me nuts if they can't see....

Here are some pictures of buff chicks I hatched from shipped eggs. Out of 6 eggs, all 6 developed, 4 made it to the hatcher, and those 4 hatched. They all hatched yesterday.

Your silkies don't look like they have feathered out much at 3-4 wks. Are you sure they are silkies?

You should put your two brooders next to each other with hardware cloth on the sides so your BO & BR and silkies can see each other so you can put them together at some point.

Many people have the little ones in the same coop as the standards.

Sounds like you're not spending as much time with the silkies as you did with your first two. Give them a little grit and meal worms and they'll warm up to you.

They are only 1.5 weeks old...

I pick them up and hold them about 5 or so times a day...you think I should do more? I don't want to stress them out, they don't seem to like it much...they are quiet and deal with it, but they scurry away when I go to pick them up and they can't wait to scurry out of my hand when I go to set them back in the brooder...

My mom is in WV...if I could, I would, but since I'm in CA that would not be fair...

...they are cute and I do like them, I don't want anyone to think they aren't in a good home, they will be spoild rotten and get to live out their lives in extreme comfort, but I only can have 4 total and I sort of wish there was only ONE silkie here, but I can't separate them now...the two have bonded I'm sure... LOL

I think I'd love them soooo much more if they didn't have the ball puff on their heads, it drives me nuts to not be able to see their eyes...

Well, I'm not one for keeping chickens in my house, BUT!!!, if ever I were to do this , say 1 or 2, it would for sure be a little silky. They almost don't even look like a real chicken. They are way to cute. I think they look like they are wearing pantaloons and when they walk or run it's just the cuttiest. Yep, I would be able to put on a chicken diaper and keep it in my house just like a parrot, in a nice cage and spoil it rotten. here is my "big Bird" with her surrogate hatchlings. First time broody , and what a good mom.
