Silly broodies

Wonderful, Janet! Glenda is on Day 10, I think. She's doing very well still. Funny how her mama, a Buff Brahma, never went broody. Her daddy is Suede, my Blue Orpington, but my Blue Orps have never gone broody, either, in spite of what I hear about them. Glenda surprised me by being the broody type.

I have a broody OEG on day five with 8 silkie eggs from Tori. She is on I think day 5.

It's not only you!! I have 3 broodies also...And a hen with week olds...and a hen with 3 day olds...they don't really care I guess!
My Araucana hen should hatch around the 23, and my blue splash dutch just started on Wednesday! I have my dad's cochin setting also, i believe she is a few days behind the araucana

Cyn, this broody here with the two tiny banty babes has gone broody twice this yr and is the grandma of your Kira and Cassie. The other Del broody here is her daughter, so it's in the genes. I would almost say it's an iron-clad guarantee on those two pretty pullets of yours next year.

I have 2 hens that aren't broody or with chicks, but they are still laying!!! Might have to update soon...who knows?
One hen with chicks is a new addition. Another finally has chicks, after her 3rd try. The other with chicks is a Dec/Jan baby, and the other three are this year's babies as well. So maybe that's why. They just didn't want to wait till spring I guess!

Oh they are soo tiny and cute! Congratulations!!

Mama is a beautiful girl!!

I personally feel one of the most beautiful sights is a Mama Hen and her brood running around the yard!!

Thanks!

And, yes, I agree, a broody with her brood is just about the prettiest thing in the world. I can't wait until the banty hen's clutch hatches, because she's the biological mama and that'll be possibly even cuter.

I also wanted to say, the Buff Brahma in your avatar is just gorgeous! Our BB's are about 4 1/2 months old...out of 5 only got one hen. I am hoping she turns into a good broody/setting hen and hatches a clutch come spring!

I have a broody also - she started with 10 eggs - 19 days ago and now she has about 6 - not quite sure as she never gets off the nest. I find and egg thrown out on the ground every now and then - - she should be hatching On monday....they are not her eggs - I got them from a farmer down the road who sold his chickens and gave me theleftover fertile eggs...I hope they are fertile - this is her second batch in a row and the first set was all bad...so I got these hoping she could hatch some. She has been sitting for 6 weeks..she is a determined girl!!!!
