Silly broodies

Thanks!

And, yes, I agree, a broody with her brood is just about the prettiest thing in the world. I can't wait until the banty hen's clutch hatches, because she's the biological mama and that'll be possibly even cuter.

I also wanted to say, the Buff Brahma in your avatar is just gorgeous! Our BB's are about 4 1/2 months old...out of 5 only got one hen. I am hoping she turns into a good broody/setting hen and hatches a clutch come spring!

Thank you. That's my main BBB roo, Turtle. He's the father of the baby chicks. Here's a snap of him I took this morning:

Best of luck with yours in the spring!

Hey, I'm thrilled! Thanks again for talking me into these beautiful birds of yours, Janet. The new owner of the last two extra cockerels took them to their new home this morning so I just have Jake and his pretty Delaware ladies now. When Suede's two new women are old enough, I'll remove them from that pen and put in the two Welsummers so Jake has more than two ladies. I like the natural broody tendencies, so I couldn't be happier.

Cyn, I'm so glad that you like them and tickled to death you plan to breed them. I'm expecting to see some nice-looking Dels coming out of N. Georgia

We had to do that with a game hen my dad has. She started setting on eggs that weren't even fertile, as he had no roo with his games. So dad went to a guy down the road and bought a dozen eggs that were supposed to be fertile. She sat on those until all but three had blown up, then dad took the others away. She went back to sitting on the empty nest, so dad gave her a dummy, so she'd stay long enough for him to go and buy some babies!! The babies are now 3 mos old, and bigger than her (they are mostly RIR), but she still takes care of them!

My cochin hen is sitting on 2 eggs. She went broody over a month ago and wouldn't come out of it. So I just gave up and let her sit a couple. They are on day 9 or 10.
