I have been looking for this ABC song, too. There are some lines I can't remember

There was a little man learned his ABCs
He learned to say them all through the XYZs

A is for an apple red
B is for a baby bed
C is for a circus clown upside down

Now listen little man and you shall not fail

D is for a dog with a waggly tail
E is for an elephant, putting up a circus tent
F is for a frog sitting on a log

now G is for giraffe with his neck so long
and H is for a horse that is very strong
I is for an ice igloo
J is for a juggler, too
K us for a hop, hop, hopping kangaroo

Now L is for a lion of kingly look
and M is for the music that's in a book
N is for a nanny goat chewing on a petticoat
O is for an ostrich with....... (neck so long?)

Now P is for a pig with a curly tail
and Q is for a quaint bird that's called a quail
R is for a robin red
S for Santa on his sled
T is for ..................

U is for umbrella in sun or rain
and V for violin with its sweet refrain
W for wolf along
X is for a xylephone
Y for yak
and Z for zebra in the zoo

That is all I know. I've tried to fill in the blanks, but my mom is in her 80s and can't remember. I'm going to ask one of her sisters.

My little sister Heather got this music box/book for her birthday 1966. I am nine years older than she is and I sang it hundreds of times. This is how I remember it.

my mom texted me and told me the song was from a play by E. Humperdink (not the singer) called hansel and Gretel. You can find it on you tube, but don't know about the song if its on you tube, just a clip of the play. But, there you go. She told me she has the sheet music, but no lyrics, even though she sang it to us as kids. And I think the ostrich part is O is for an ostrich with his head in the sand....don't know for sure. but, hope this helps

ok, so the last post was correct, I found the opera on youtube and the words to that particular tune is not the abc one. so I am assuming the abc song was adapted to the music from the music in his opera. The scene the song is in, is when Gretel is in the woods alone, its called Gretels song. but it is the tune I remember hearing my mom sing it in. I will do some more research and find out about the alphabet part coming into it

Hi there! When my daughter and son were little, I had the original Alphabet pop-up music box that played the melody and the words were in the book that came with it. I memorized the words and sang that song to my children a gazillion times and have since sung it to my grandchildren who are now 14 and 11. Everyone who hears it, loves it! Here it is:

Thanks to all! My younger siblings got this jack in the box/book in the early 1960's, and I've been trying to remember it. Although it seems like a sang it to them hundreds of times, I didn't have it memorized.

Okay I know this is a long shot because this string is a little old, but I have been searching for that dang song and where it came from on and off for a couple years now! My Mom used to sing it to my brother and I when we were little and while I remembered the tune I could remember all the words. My billionth search with what words I could remember led me here!! I’m glad I have all the words now and I had no idea it was from a play - I don’t think my Mom knew either.

Question for those who owned the music box and book though - can you recall what it looked like and what it was called? I really want to see if I can one or both up! I always thought it came from just a book or a book and record, so knowing it may be a music box is super cool. Any details you could provide would be so so appreciated. Thank you!!

It was about 5 inches square with a metal crank on the side with a little wood spool that you turned to hear the tune. The book was hard thick pages with the words and colorful pictures.
