How wonderful Pam that your older girl found relief. I really think that the birds
who drown in water do so because they are in shock, panic, and unable to get
out. I could be wrong. Ours do really well though. When your girls get over
heated, pull them in with you. It really instantly brings their body temp down,
provided the pool is cool. Ours is no longer so at 90 degrees. Yikes!
Well thats just dinky do. lol Cute swimming chickens! The girls are cute too.
I have a shallow watering pan and my chickens all jump in to drink. Especially
one of the RIR roosters. I know that's not the same as a pool but it makes me wonder.

You need to help your girls find out what the pool is for by putting them in. Oh...wait....they do know what it's for....collecting bugs!

Yes they do!!! Just last week, I had one of my favorite bantam white rocks, Rose do this. I was probably 5 minutes to late. When I walked into the kitchen, I noticed that the pool had been disturbed, and saw my little girl, face down, floating in the pool!! Let me tell you, I was devastated.
She always had a thing with floating things in the pool. Everyone, please be careful of your birds around water, they CAN'T swim! Although the pictures are adorable, I'm glad they had people there holding them. Like its always said, "Don't do this at home"

I'm so sorry you lost your precious Rose. More likely the cause of her death was the shock, fear and panic.
She likely didn't know what to do when she was in the water like that. Our chickens on the other hand
actually do know how to swim. They are never in the pool without us, and the pictures I posted also
show the chickens without anyone holding them. Our birds trust us and we carefully and slowly
introduced them to swimming, and now they are like 3 little ducks! We are very careful and always will be.
Again, I'm so sorry about Rose. It's always heartbreaking to lose a loved pet.
Thanks. I really miss that sweet girl too. She had this thing for stuff floating in the pool, because we found her one time floating on a pool mat that works on solar rays. Actually, I've never seen a chicken do that before. I mean, your pictures are priceless, I think they are adorable too. I wish I could teach my girls to swim.
