Are Silver Appleyards and quieter and friendlier than most other duck breeds? I have heard this but I have never met anyone in person who owns them. I would like a duck that can either live in with my chickens or roam the yard and not leave. And also that is friendly, lays eggs, and doesnt make too much noise.
Thanks all!

I don't know about that particular breed being more friendly. I think it depends on how they are raised, if they're handled more and played with more they are going to be more friendly. If you want a quieter duck, go with a domesticated breed, not a call duck or mallard. Khaki Campbells hold the record for laying the most eggs - 364 eggs in 365 days, I do believe.

This sums it up.

I raise Silver Appleyards. They are big birds and pretty as well. As far as friendly, though, that depends more how often they are handled as ducklings. And generally, my ducks and geese ignore the chickens. They dont' really bond.

Ducks can be trained easily to "go to bed" at night, while left to roam/forage during the day.
