I have been reading about breeding sex link chicks and had read that a Silver Laced Wyandotte could be used on the hen side. Is the silver gene of the Polish different? Or could it be used in place of the SLW? The rooster would have to be a Red base, correct? Would a Faverolle work? Leghorn? What breed could you use on a Polish hen that would produce a white (or cream) egg laying sex link?

Yes the SL Wyandotte and SL polish is the same genes.
Faverolle won't work because they're based on silver also.
You need a gold based rooster. Those are typically gold, buff, red etc.
You could use a gold laced polish rooster and SL polish hen.

Thank you for taking the time to reply! (My first question and answer on this forum:))

I was interested because I already have some SLP. I assume the silver Laced Gene is silver and when that is on the hen and you cross it with a red base rooster you can get sex link. But some of the charts only list more common breeds. I was looking at breed chart that said a Welsummer Rooster on a Silver Laced Wyandotte. I Assume then it would work with a SLP... but didn’t know if there were difference is what causes the silver Laced such as in a Barnevelder... would a Welsummer on a Silver Laced Barnevelder work?

Is going to be a really difficult if not impossible task to sex chicks coming using the Lacing type found on Polish, They are based on ER birchen.

Here is a cross of SL Polish Rooster to RIR hens, the males are ER/eWh, S/s+ and females are ER/eWh, S/-

You would think that the reddish face would indicate a red lacing or gold based chicks, but ER birchen allele will not work like that.

Not difficult if you use GLP rooster over SLP hens.

In this chart the “silver” type of different breeds is used with their “brown” counterpart in the opposite group but this is not true or Silver Laced Barnevelder (though Barnevelder is listed in one group). Nor is the Polish.
