So, I know it's too young to know for sure, but this is my first dotte. I was wondering if people who have raised more of them might have a better idea based on the feathering and pattern. So far the chick has a very slow growing tail and my last batch of chicks that I saw that in ended up being a roo 😞
Unfortunately I don't have any other wyandotte chicks to compare to.

I'm afraid I have a little boy! Thoughts? I'll keep y'all posted if there is any uncertainty as the chick grows 😊

Not the best photos, but this is my silver laced wyandotte Curly, when he was a similar age. 5 weeks? And one of him as an adult. He had a straight comb, though, so it was easier to see. The whitening of the head and neck on yours does suggest roo to me, but not sure yet.

No offense, but he isn't a very good example. 🤣 Wyandottes are supposed to have rose combs as the standard says so don't enter him in any shows lmao. Nonetheless he is stunning and I am jealous! You are lucky to have such a gorgous bird and so are his ladies. I have a golden laced wyandotte that has a single comb too though, but I am trying to breed that gene out.

The day after I posted this his comb started getting red and his little wattles are showing :( But regardless, I will try to post an update photo in a few weeks.

Hi all, I think that's a female but have never owned Silver Laced Wyandottes before 3 weeks ago.
I received an order of SLWs from Tractor Supply that sadly 7.5 of 40 died and there's at least one cockerel.
He's much whiter and aggressive. He charges my hand and pecks me, and roosts up high guarding his ladies.
Here he is today at 22 days old. His shoulders are much whiter than the others. Looks like he has a straight comb even though it should be a rose comb. Does anyone up in Vermont area want him? :)

If anyone's wondering, TSC gave me a refund for 8 chicks but I wouldn't recommend mail ordering from there even when the weather is warmer. The weak ones struggled and it has been very sad! Finding a local farmer with chicks is your best bet.
