Silver laced Wyandotte 6 week old hens???

I'm on the fence...that bird has the even coloring of a girl, but a large comb. I really don't know.

Don't give up hope. I'm not. I read that this breed is the hardest to sex. I was thinking it might be fun to post chick photos of some of our full grown chickens which we already know the sex of. And see how many guesses are right and wrong.

That could be fun! I'll keep my fingers crossed, but I gotta say, I've had a feeling like this guy might be rooster since they were a week old. Now his looks are starting to fit the part too...That's alright, though. Like I said, I lucked out in the pullet department, so I can deal with one rooster. :)

What made you think he was a roo earlier on?

In the group, I have 2 SLWs. He has always been slightly bigger, in body, feet, and comb. As a baby, he was always running around the brooder, charging at the other chicks and at my hand. He is always on high alert, too. I've never had SLWs before, so I wasn't sure about this one, but his coloring came in differently than his sister's. This is kind of a stretch and maybe a coincidence, but in the past, whenever I've had two of a breed and their feathers came in noticeably different, they've turned out to be hen and rooster. Just all those little physical and behavioral differences that you notice and slowly add up to give you that gut feeling.

You just described mine in personality but I read that's common with that breed and also she may be the head hen when there is no rooster. Let's follow up with each other as they get older.

Seems to me you have read a LOT of crud without much accuracy and you believe it.

I've raised several Wyandotte... they are one of the EASIER breeds to sex with the boys often showing their gender fairly early (by 6 weeks)... and the cockerels/roosters make fantastic table birds that taste great! :drool

How about this one? roo??
Pullet so far... despite standing like a cockerel. What is the breed supposed to be? :pop

Please understand that when I discuss quality of lacing I am NOT in any way indicating the beauty of the bird is less than anyone else. They are still plenty gorgeous! :)

I understand wishful thinking... and even holding reservations while they mature some more for confirmation... but with the kind of disregard shown for the experienced folks who took their time to share their assessment (different than an opinion) with you to TRY and help YOU have your best flock life possible.. just seems rude. :hmm Maybe I'm being sensitive today.. Ah well... it is what it is.

Get ALL your chicken myths and crud reading busted here on BYC by folks who have a more clear understanding of truth as it pertains to poultry. Hold tight to what you read and search FB for information, if you wish to remain in the dark.

Best wishes for all pullets! :fl

My first instinct was to apologize if I offended anyone in any way but after reading through my thread I do not feel like a healthy debate is being rude. I do feel that your reply was harsh and belittling. If you are a so called expert that members who have questions rely on and in turn those members get reprimanded for being what you think is uneducated or in your words reading CRUD then Yes you are having a bad day. If you are in any way a founder of the BYC site, shame on you. If you're a subscriber like I am, please refrain from any further posts on my thread. Thank you.
