PEI - that large male has the size that I need in my flock!! I would love to see some better pics of your females...it appears you may have some of the same issues with them that I do with mine (cushions, short toplines) but the underlines look good from what I can see.

Those carcasses look like they have a good amount of meat on them - KUDOS! A true dual-purpose breed (at least the flock in YOUR back yard!). I have decent type, just not good size on mine. Would love to work together! Where did your flock come from?

Hi Wynette

Thank you for your kind comments. I have sent you a personal message about mailing eggs.

My spprs came from an octogenarian (George N.) in Nova Scotia in 2010. Before that, I believe that they originally came from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. The college had a heritage poultry program many years ago. It is no longer operating. I contacted George just before Christmas and he no long has spprs, and may not have any poultry at all now.

I will need to take more pictures and post them here. (This may take a week or so.)

Bye for now.

Hi Wynette

As promised here are some pics that I took today. It is minus 11 degrees C here and windy, so the day is quite brisk. We lost all our snow last week, but we are back in the deep freeze again, and more snow is forecast for tonight.

The broody is in the shared nest and I moved her to take a picture of the eggs she is keeping from freezing

The pullets' eggs are still small, but slowly enlarging each week now.

I added some scratch to their run, so they are busy gobbling that up.

The older 2011 rooster is with them, and I see that his comb is a bit frostbitten which is hardly surprizing because we had a long cold spell in mid January.

Happy Winter! and stay warm.

These are the best looking silv. penciled Rocks I have seen in years. I really like the females haveing the t-pee and open tails. Great job with these. Also look at the big bushy tail on this mail. Super breeder male.

Nice Rocks you have. Could you tell us the history of the strain. Where you got them? How many do you know that are like this in Canada? Our Colombians came from Dick New land and where very nice birds.Yard Full of Rocks is in charge of this line and spreeding them out to others. Look forward to your reply. Keep up the good work. Do you ever show any of your birds in the USA?

I know Dick Nieuwland is (or was) unaware of these birds in PEI because I asked him for help with SPR. I'm sure he will be THRILLED to learn of them, however. And I will make sure he does. I know there is a young fellow in Ontario looking for SPRs. He had a trio at the Canadian National but lost his cock bird shortly after the show. He was/is also working with Dick.
