Hello....I am wondering about keeping a single duck. There were two, but I had to put the other down because of leg problems. Now this duck is by itself and it is about two years old. My husband says no more, but I don't care for it to be by itself. There is a pond at a subdivision my sister lives in that has numerous ducks that my husband suggest we take her there so she won't be lonely. Since she has been pampered all her life, would this be cruel? I want to do what is best for her.

Things that may be obvious to us, may not be the case for others. The OP clearly cares (and has for two years) for her ducks so I do not feel the chastisement is warranted. She would not have gone through the process of joining this forum and voicing her concern if she had no thoughts to the wellbeing of her remaining duck. It's easy to assume that because other ducks do fine in a certain environment, why wouldn't another one?

As mentioned ducks are social creatures and since you are not in the position to add one, your duck would do best being rehomed to someone who already has ducks and is equipped to care for her. Best of luck to you and your quacker :)

Sorry for the chastisement! I know your intentions are good!
