I have a single male duck, he is old and his only mate die two week ago. He lives with 3 Geese and they pretty much ignore him with an occasional bite if he gets too close. So I found a person that wants to sell 3 male ducks that are 4 months old. I wanted to know if you think the geese will bother the new ducks? I am only getting them to make sure my male duck is not lonely. I am a senior citizen and really don't want to add to my animals its hard for me to get outside and take care of them. Having said that, I don't want the one duck to be sad and maybe die.
I would appreciate any thoughts or experiences you might have had. Thank you, Terri

I wouldn't bring new drakes into your flock they may abuse your old drake. All drake flocks can really be rough during hormone season an who ever is the under dog is going to pay. At least the geese are use to him and he them.

Very sorry for your loss :hugs

Miss Lydia, Well you have helped me before with other questions I have had and I feel you know of what you speak. I will tell the man I am not interested. I have been worrying about doing it but I felt bad for my drake. Thanks for the advice. Terri

They maybe fine for a while but once hormones kick in it can really change everything up. When my Muscovy drake was getting up in years I had to separate him from the other drakes for about the last 3 yrs of his life he lived till almost 12. They know when one is not as strong and healthy.

When my adult drake lost his mate, I got him a drake buddy that was the same age. They have only had one incident where I had to separate them for about a week, but it has been smooth sailing ever since. They act like brothers. If you worry about a drake, you could always try getting him a hen who is around the same age.
