Thank you @casportpony for this gross but education post. I have a hen with a sinus infection and just spent some time trying to clean out the gunk but I don't think I got it all...

I was trying to find a good pic of the sinuses because I found that inside her mouth (on the infected side) there was a visible clog. I got the dried plug out but there was a lot of white pus underneath. Unfortunately I was doing this solo so hard to take pictures. This was before I started cleaning the infection.

I'm wondering if I need to perform surgery now like in your examples...

I purchased a medical scalpel and waiting for delivery. This is very intimidating but she's had this bump for a week now and antibiotics isn't helping it go down.

It looks like you cut either just below the bump or almost at the bottom of the swelling?
