Site viewing, often in articles, is unnecessarily slow and frustrating.

Hello.
The internet connection I have here is far from state of the art, not do I have a particularly powerful computer. I imagine there are many contributors to BYC in a similar position.
There are a number of things that posters can do to help those with older computer hardware and not state of the art internet connections to make viewing the site a less frustrating business.
Large high definition pictures of MegaByte size take a long time to load. Most operating system provide a conversion tool in their media packages that will convet a png image for example to a jpeg image with a much reduced file size and no apparent reduction in quality when view on the forum pages.
Animated Gifs may be fun, but they to make demands on the bandwidth and processor.
Large bold type may seem a great idea to make your point but is it really necessary?
Even a reduction of permitted picture file size to would help.
Anyway, I wondered if the staff at BYC might consider a posting guidelines for considerate posters illustrating how to resize pictures for example and in general how to post so the site rund more smoothly for those of us with poor internet and older hardware.

Not a problem for you then...:p
No it isn't and I don't think that I would go out of my way to do extra steps (resizing) for people with older equipment.
Sorry.

Okay. Some posts are so bloated that it takes more time to load than my patience will cope with.
I guess I just wont bother reading them then....

Hey I hear you @Shadrach I have a horrible time lately with the slowest of slow connection, some days its so painfully slow I can't post here. I'm usually on a small device, I've tried turning on data saver and still its slow. What else can I do?! :barnie

I do understand your pain but I have to disagree about photo file size. When people need advice It's very important that other BYCers are able to get as much info as possible and one of the best ways that happens is through large detailed photos. Also text size, color, bolding, italics, etc isn't responsible for sites pages loading slowly.

You might want to try switching browsers (Opera is very fast and lightweight). You also have the option to disable images in your browser preferences. If that's too drastic there are browser extensions that allow you to block images by data size.

I often think New Mexico might be the worst state in the country for internet.

I tried the Opera browser a year or so ago. Unless its changed, I didn't notice a huge difference. It also seemed to freeze my screen often, requiring a complete reboot to get going again.
