Site viewing, often in articles, is unnecessarily slow and frustrating.

I tried the Opera browser a year or so ago. Unless its changed, I didn't notice a huge difference. It also seemed to freeze my screen often, requiring a complete reboot to get going again.
I switched from Chrome to Opera this year and it's much faster. The fact it has a built in adblocker is a huge help too. But I've also read that Firefox had a huge update and supposedly it's one of the fastest browsers now. I'm going to check it out.

I'm going to give Opera another chance. :)

I do understand your pain but I have to disagree about photo file size. When people need advice It's very important that other BYCers are able to get as much info as possible and one of the best ways that happens is through large detailed photos. Also text size, color, bolding, italics, etc isn't responsible for sites pages loading slowly.

You might want to try switching browsers (Opera is very fast and lightweight). You also have the option to disable images in your browser preferences. If that's too drastic there are browser extensions that allow you to block images by data size.
Yes, but....
To convert from say png with say a 5 Mb file size to jpeg with say 700Kb isn't a big deal.
The picture will load a lot faster and the change in image quality is low.
I read this site on an old laptop atm.
I could set up an image block but then I won't see all the pretty pictures....
I'm just moaning really. I wanted to read a particular article this morning and it just wouldn't load....

I've hated Firefox from day one. Maybe I will look into them again as well.
