sitting in my coop..am i crazy?

So everyone is gone,my hen is in her nest box getting ready to lay and I'm sitting out her waiting to hear the egg song! I think I have lost my mind...

You are NEVER crazy here lol! I sit my hen through "egg labor" every day. She comes to me and yells like a wife yelling at a husband "GET YER ARS OVER HERE AND HOLD MY DANG HAND!"

My chicks haven't started laying yet, but I'm sure, when they do, I'll be right there with them!! I love sitting with them in the evening ... I agree..it's cheaper than a shrink!!!

Newbie here, don't even have my chooks yet, in the spring. So, what does the 'egg song' sound like? I'm sure they all have a different one? C'mon, give me some examples. Do they always do it? And why? It it painful or joyful to lay an egg?

Here is the egg song, a few different versions. I have a laying Brahma right now who does not sing it though so some hens may not announce their egg.

This is "squatting" and usually happens (NOT always) a week or two before the pullet's first egg.
