Sitting in the nest on a beautiful day!

Well I was working out on the deck and this afternoon she(Lucy) came out of the coop for a quick drink and a lap around the yard.

She was out for maybe 15mins.
Right back on the nest, like a old pro.

One of the other chickens has been laying in the box next to her so far 4 eggs. Which is nice.

the eggs are from a cochin (partidge).

thanks for that info, however when I built them I put a barrier in between so that wouldn't happen and to give them a little privacy.

we've marked out calendar for October 9th +/- not sure how many days we will keep them but they will then go back to its original chicken MOM.

any suggestions how many days we should keep the chicks before sending them off?

thanks, TGP!

If you can, I would let her raise them. Makes for healthier and smarter chicks than brooder raising. She will mother them for a few weeks, then kick them out and start laying again.

I agree with the other posts. BROODY!!!

I had a bird go broody not long ago. I have golf balls in my nest boxes. I never saw her do it but somehow she was collecting the balls out of the other nest boxes and laying in one nest box with several of the golf balls under her.
