It is a prey response and I think it is like playing dead so that a bear will not hurt us as much.

It will not hurt them so let your daughter hold them that way.

It is great that your Daughter is into chickens!

She is the one who got us started. We started with the 4-h pullet chain. Now, she is more into being a teenager and I have fallen in love with the chickens but hopefully she will come back around.

:clap All caught up here! Been gone for a couple of weeks. For those who aren't on other threads I'm on DSO's mom passed just after Christmas. She was a very nice lady with a big heart and was a nurse who loved her job. We had his brother and SIL and kids from Arkansas for almost a week. I had never met them but they were awesome and we hit it off right from the start.

I really missed hanging out on BYC, But there's only so much time in a day!

:frow. Missed you. Sorry to hear of your loss but glad the family visit turned out well.

See (most) everyone in the morning! With a cup of coffee!

Good Morning! It sure is good to get back in a routine!

Everyone have a great day!!!

Just an antic-dote. You can actually put a chicken into a trance by laying it on it's back, tucking it's head toward it's breast and then using your finger, gently drawing a line from the the top of it's head down it's breast several times. If successful, it will lay there until you snap your fingers or clap your hands to wake it up. You need to have a bird that is used to being handled of course. Fun little parlor trick. If you've ever seen the "Dr Chris, Pet Vet" show by that Australian vet, they filmed him a while ago doing that to his favorite hen.
