day!

To those with snow I am jealous!! Oklahoma has had an unusual winter this far. It's cold, but no moisture. At least with snow the cold feels like it belongs and without it feels boring

At least my chickens are thriving & still laying from 16-24 eggs a day.

Hagar, I'm from Nebraska. My last name is Swanson, My peeps just nicknamed me Swanee. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I've never been on this thread before. One of my BYC friends told me you guys might be able to help me with my chicks. It's to bad the person that sold the eggs to me didn't breed his rooster to his hens. All the same breeds. The roos are very good roos. I got 3 dozen fresh eggs one day that he had just gotten and I picked out a dozen out of the cleanest ones. I had told him not to wash them because I would like to incubate. What a pick! Every egg was fertile. One chick started pipping before it was ready and it was premature, poor chick. Another pipped but didn't go any farther. I thought I might end up with the usual 4 or 5 and ended up with 10. They are all a lively bunch. Thanks everyone for the info and the warm welcome! By the way I love coffee too!

There are some very experienced chicken people on this thread and they are friendly and helpful. The Old Folks Home is another very good thread with a lot of the same people. I am happy that your hatch came out well. The Swanee river is flows across Florida South of here and anyone on the Swanee is good to contact if I am going to Florida.

The pictures of the snow scenes are beautiful! We haven't had any snow like that. It's been plenty cold though. You know wouldn't know it by my chickens, they want out no matter how cold it is and don't mind a little snow. They come up by my porch and hang where the ground doesn't have any snow. All we have had is maybe 2 inches a few different times and maybe not even that much. I don't miss it at all. Looks like we are going to have a mild few days so that's great with me!
