Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Humm....

I finally remembered to buy coffee beans... Aaahhhhhhhhhh! Good coffee!

I put a bubch of eggs in the incubator.... Actually, I had the kids do it, so I could pretend I didn't do it.

Anyway.... Some are dirtier than I would like.... But I decided I would try dirty over washing them??? Dunno :idunno

I put in a bunch of marans, and a few olive eggers.... Actually, I think I am going to have kid run and see if there are any leghorn eggs (they would be mutts though) in the coop, I am not sure I can live incubating a bunch of eggs I can't candle.

Hi!

It's going pretty good so far. Yes, everyone's doing well. Thanks! =)

My DH is ecstatic that the Pats are going to the Super Bowl! I'm a Miami fan, so I don't care.

But DH and DD are happy, so I'm happy too. I'll have to get ear plugs before the game; you know how those Patriots fans can be!!! lol

Great on the eggs!!!

Going good. Waiting on a bator full of eggs to hatch and filling another with turkey eggs. Love some babies.
How are things going with you? We missed ya on here...

Oh, good! I just set some eggs. Lost one of my hens (well, the fourth in a little over a month), but I had six of her eggs on hand and they'll be sex-links. Is there already a name for NH roo over a WL hen? I read somewhere that a RIR x WL is a Red Star, but I haven't seen NH x WL.
I want turkeys, but it looks like I'm going to have to wait a while.
Things are going well. School's not too hard, kids are good, we're all healthy.
My g-parents came to watch the Championship games w/ DD on Sunday. It was great.

Just get a nice head set plug in your fav music, and sit back, relax and spend the afternoon on BYC.

Hi everybody - happy Friday! Couple of newbiequestions: is lockdown when you "lock" eggs in your incubator and turn it on? Alaskan - can you not candle eggs that are dark in color or when they are in lockdown?

Trying not to jinx the whole area - but where is the snow? I've still got enough that I slid off my own driveway and got stuck but thereis so much less than last year that the walked on paths and bits are getting icy with no new snow...

:idunno

@Alaskan - I loved the stinky people blog post about going to the big city. My horse friends and I joke that we are always the only ones in line at the store who have poop smells wafting off our boots...

I love the blogs but I can't seem to comment there so I comment here - something about wanting my browser login...

:woot

Lockdown is the final stages of incubation and happens on Day 18. Called lockdown because you then are hands-off the incubator and the humidity increases. If you open the incubator after lockdown you run the risk of botching the hatch with humidity change. (Humidity high to keep membranes soft, pliable, and easy to break through...if a sudden drop, then the membrane may shrivel and shrinkwrap the chick)
