. I really like the bi-level roost/catch tray idea. Hmmm. Think I am going to have to steal that one. Been trying to figure out how to add another roost now that I am going to heritage Australorps. They are really big birds!!! I've had to give up on the netting idea. Doesn't work with our snowload either and I don't have the patience to do the intricate weaving thing I have seen on other threads. What I've done for now in the run is give the girls table like platforms to hide under (or use as shady dust baths in the summer time).

Ok, I just spent the past 2 hours shoveling "wet concrete" snow off all the roofs of the coop, greenhouse, workshop, etc. and clearing all the gates and walkways before the temp plummets and turns the wet stuff into real concrete. More snow coming later so now I am heading for my comfy chair and large mug.

On my higher poop tray in the shed, I had planned to bevel the front edge of the 2x4, but didn't get around to it.

The chickens liked perching on the the perch, as well as the front edge of the poop tray.

I added the second perch and poop tray, but no one wants to sleep there. They like playing up there, probably because it is in the sun but out of the wind. But they don't like sleeping there.

So....since if I beveled the poop tray edge, that would force the chickens to start fighting over who gets the prime/highest perch....I decided to NOT bevel it, and I just took a 1x4 and screwed it on top of the 2x4 edge, so that the edge was now a proper 4inch perch.

The chickens all perch with their heads out, so even though they are perching on the edge of the poop tray, all of the poop falls into the tray.

This way I have gotten two full 8 foot perches on one 2x8 poop tray.

Humm, maybe I should include the above on my coop page.

Threegoodeggs: When I lived in Texas I had termites..... It *IS* very nice to be in a termite free area.

I have only gotten out two Christmas cookie jars. I think as long as I keep them full and the chex mix flowing, no one will care if anything else gets done.
I hope.

I am still sick and really tired of being sick. I have so much stuff to do!
...and not Mitch's pumpkin stuff, because he has yet to get back with me on what that 'stuff' actually is.

hey. it's a verb and a noun and an adjective. "stuff' is much more versatile than 'thingie'
(Yeah, I am only drinking coffee. really....and cough syrup ...
...Oh,now that might be my problem.

sigh, more coffee.... I am glad I have BYC or I would be insanely bored by now.
