Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Ok... The "it is super hot so let us set up a tent in the living room" males no sense. You find a shady spot with a breeze. Duh. Oooh! Or set up a nice pull fan! :)

Also... Puddin, that lady not gathering eggs because hens were on nests! :lau i would have returned to a MOUNTAIN of eggs, many crushed.. Probably an egg eater or two to boot!

Like my new Avi???

Sorry for your chickie babies

Happy you were able to rescue the rest.

You must post lots of pics when things settle down and you can relax.

Ok, all you knowledgeable chickie hatchers, I need your input.
My crazy broody has decided to stick. If I could order some eggs maybe off Ebay, would that be too long for her to sit do you think? I would really like to shove some quality Australorp eggs under her.
What do you guys think? Would it work? I still have "plan B" aka the neighbor's eggs but she can only get maybe 2 eggs a day for sure because here chickens are laying everywhere but the nest boxes (long story).
thanks in advance for your help.

(oh, and I don't have an incubator)

Hummm... I know some people use broodies to hatch shipped eggs... I only tried that once, and the broody didn't do as well as my incubator...

The problem is that the air cells get all wonky with the shipping, and so really need to stand up for the first week, with gentle turning, until the air cells settle and stick in the correct place.

Is there no one semi local? Are you within driving distance of duane urch? :drool

Have you asked on your state thread? And looked through the listings here on BYC?

And... The ebay eggs would be a big gamble... BUT sometimes things sell on there at such a great price, that it is worth the gamble.

So.. Take a look there too... See what you see, just realize that it is a big gamble

Is there someone local that has hatched chicks of a breed you want?

That will break a broody too.

Thanks Alaskan

Oh how I wish we were closer to Urch! He's hours and hours away and because of current health stuff, DH would never go for us (aka me) roadtripping that far.
I just checked on here and didn't see anything. You make a valid point about the whole rush shipping thing anyway. I think my best bet is to just stick with plan B
for now and cross my fingers the eggs she grabs are from the higher quality birds.

I don't know of anyone but myself and my neighbor (who I gave my extra aussies too) that even have BA's but that's a thought. Unfortunately this isn't exactly farm country so not many folks have livestock or chickens. I guess I need to do a fast check around. I may have to settle for something other than Aussies this time.
Thanks!!!

You should also check craig's list and whatever local facebook page ...

For me on facebook I would check:

Homer classified

Kenai peninsula farm and ranch sales

Alaska flock talk and swap

The Alaska Flock talk and Swap is state wide... So lots of those people are too far away.. But they made up a list this spring of ALL breeders across the state, and what they sell... I think they stuck it in the "files" section..
