I have - ummmmmmm - several roosters. I've learned to tell time at night by the frequency of their crowing. They hardly say anything between sundown and midnight, but the odd crow may happen between 12 and 1 a.m. Then about 2, they kick it up a notch. Around 4, up another notch. They start crowing every few seconds before the sun lightens the horizon; all I can say is, I have very tolerant neighbors.

I love the sound of my Roosters crowing, it tells me everything is good and all are safe. Besides I just like the sound..

I do not understand communities that do not allow roosters, they are way more pleasant than a dog barking or tom cats fighting. And 5 times more pleasant than a siren going off.

Sage is so good on Chicken.
There were a couple years in a row that it got cold enough for my sage to bloom. It was so lovely.
We were too hot this year, but it is really doing well.

I love to grow herbs, but I rarely use them.
I think pesto is a great idea.

Sage is also really good in the chicken's nesting boxes to help as insect repellents. Also, bay leaves, catnip, lavender, lemon balm, lemon grass, marigolds, mint, and rosemary. I usually use sage, lavender, mint and rosemary, because those are the herbs I grow.

Pesto is really good on chicken with fresh tomato slices and mozzarella!

I love roosters too and really miss my gently (tho rather worthless) big Aussie roo Max but it was a compromise. DH was city born and tho he is (was) an avid hunter it still took me years and years to make a country guy out of him and he just still has this "city" thing about roosters and really doesn't want one. Then of course he really wasn't too thrilled about my hens until I had my accident and he had to take care of them for me that whole fall and winter. I didn't even have to ask, he jumped right in and took over (he's just that kind of great guy) and somewhere along the way he discovered what amazing creatures they really are and tho he still keeps a close eye on my numbers
