We are dealing with hardpack, too. and amazing amounts of rocks, which is why I am doing raised beds and bringing in decent dirt. The husband is okay with it because it is really just a one-time expense and he has had to dig in this soil and knows what I am up against... (love the DH!!!!) but our soil has always been a tad acidic...I wouldn't know what to do with alkaline either. but I know the UK has some lovely gardens and they have alkaline soil so it cant be too bad...you can grow roses and carnations if nothing else! (not sure what food plants, though)

I am trying to plan what goes where based on the whole companion planting thing but it is making my head spin.

We too are going to be blessed with more of the white stuff. Major storm by mid-week. You poor folks in the south!

At least we are use to it up here.
Alaskan-so sorry for the ice and wet snow. We have not had the ice problem here, yet

We "were" actually seeing some ground in spots.

Haven't heard from Max's new home yet. Very difficult to drink coffee and hold breath at the same time!

Blueberries grow wild around here...and we have really acidic soil so probably not blueberries. I've heard that we have to put lime in our soil here for asparagus to do well so Asparagus might be a good choice....

good morning all..having a few cups of coffee this morning too. loving having the husband home helping with some of the chores and having a nice visit with him. Spring is coming to our little slice of heaven and I am sooo happy about it! The pear and cherry trees are just about to bloom..the early flowers a peeping their little shoots up out of their sleepy little pots and beds..Doing a happy dance here. Going to finish up a few little things here and go w/hubby and all the dogs for a drive..weather aside they love a good walk on the beach and when it is raining out not too many people are there so we get the beach to ourselves usually. Dogs are so funny when the waves are crashing in...running up and barking at the retreating water...running for their lives with joy in their eyes when running away as soon as the wave comes back in...love it. We will take a big thermos of hot tea (hubby can drink that) and towels for the dogs..I love Sundays.

Mocha Valencia is a mocha with Valencia orange syrup in it. I make my own (when I can get my mitts on Valencias). This used to be Starbuck's most expensive drink (and my favorite)

But they discontinued carrying the syrup. I've had a lot of trouble with them discontinuing my favorite flavors over the years. =(
It's a good thing for them that DH likes them so well. lol
