alkaline soil ?We are dealing with hardpack, too. and amazing amounts of rocks, which is why I am doing raised beds and bringing in decent dirt. The husband is okay with it because it is really just a one-time expense and he has had to dig in this soil and knows what I am up against... (love the DH!!!!) but our soil has always been a tad acidic...I wouldn't know what to do with alkaline either. but I know the UK has some lovely gardens and they have alkaline soil so it cant be too bad...you can grow roses and carnations if nothing else! (not sure what food plants, though)
I am trying to plan what goes where based on the whole companion planting thing but it is making my head spin.
I knew it was one way or the other with blue berries, they are not flexible.Blueberries grow wild around here...and we have really acidic soil so probably not blueberries. I've heard that we have to put lime in our soil here for asparagus to do well so Asparagus might be a good choice....
