OK, two cute chicki pictures!

The chicken chick next to the quail is a smallish bantam, one day older than the quail!

Oooooh Quail are so tiiinnnyyy! And Cute! :clap Congratulations on on all your new fuzzy butts!

You will get us mixed up? I can change my avvy if you want.

No, not really. I was teasing you guys. =)
You'd do that for me??? Aw, how sweet!!! =D

Well, I don't know if this thread is still about coffee- But if it is, I'm joining! I love coffee, and can barely function if I don't have a cup ( or four) before I go to work. My favorite so far is dark chocolate truffle coffee...

Welcome!!!
As far as I know it's still about coffee. We just also talk about whatever's going on too, over cups of coffee (sometimes pretty large cups and the occasional flamingo bowl). ;)
I like chocolate coffee too. Dark chocolate truffle coffee sounds divine!!!

Haha, thanks for the welcome, don't worry, if that's your warning, I'll fit right in!

For the next 3 weeks, I'll probably be chugging the coffee to deal with the stress of having a broody. It would have been fine, but the eggs have such a large gap in their age, that I have to be ready to hatch the late eggs in an incubator. * sigh*
fl.gif
hoping all goes well with your broody hatch!!! (and your coffee) lol

Okay, here's my disclaimer:
There were over a hundred and twenty unread posts on here, and I'm pressed for time, so I'm going to try to just look for my name and quote to reply (although, I love ya'll so much that I usually end up reading every post, so...)

X2 Chicki! both are awesome! And you know who your real friends are when they still want to hang out with the crazy chicken lady!

That's too funny! I was going to change mine to my little Favorelle that was so cute, but now I'll find something a little different just for you Teachick!
big_smile.png
You don't have to do that!!!

Oh yes you will fit in nicely! And nice avi BTW!
@saltandpepper2 , x2 on the avi. =) lol

Can I just send my roos to Alaskan Freezer camp? ( It's too cold at Alaskans. I am a cold whimp if you couldn't tell this past winter.) I have 3 crowing 10 week old Silkies! and a 6 1/2 week old OE trying to crow!
th.gif
And that's why there is chicken math.
jumpy.gif
And why I ordered more chicks than I knew I could/would want to accomodate full size hens.
wink.png

Then the vole would have less to haul.
big_smile.png

I wish! Thankfully, none of my late January hatch has started to crow yet!!! We'll freezer camp them before June. Fried chicken all around!!!
Yeah, DH doesn't understand that how many eggs I set has to be figured thusly: 3 eggs/wk/hen (winter laying) >times< 2 (b/c half of what hatches will probably be cockerels) >times< 2 (b/c you can count on a 50% hatch rate, don't tell him that's a conservative estimate
wink.png
) >plus< a few extras to round out dozens (16, remember the farmer's dozen) (b/c some of them will probably be lost to predation or illness before winter comes, which is what we're trying to prepare for).
But I didn't get as many as I wanted to hatched out before May, so I'll sell the rest of what I hatch as straight run, b/c I can't be garenteed that they'll start laying before winter. Maybe I need to buy another dozen from TSC??? I'd just get sex-link pullets if I did that though......

switched coffee brands today, "Donut Shop" from Sam's ................might take four cups to see if I like it...................maybe more.....................stay tuned for 'the rest of the story".......now a word from our sponsor......................moved the hardest part of chicken raising from next week to now, no more postponing freezer camp.
hugs.gif
I'm doing freezer camp later this month. I'm not looking forward to it.
Yes, let us know how that coffee is. DH only drinks Dunkin Donuts, and Starbuck's (and I like Eight O'Clock, and he doesn't mind it, so we buy that too).

Well, the broody is sitting on 4 Black Copper Marans eggs, one Black sex link, one EE egg, and one unknown, lol. I think it will be a buff/marans mix. All of them are from my own flock. I'm trying to decide whether I should take the chicks while they hatch, then return them when all the eggs are done, or to finish incubating them, then give the new chicks to her. Which should go smoother?

About your siggie: Did you write that poem? It's beautiful!!! Who/what is LOTR?

Good morning! I have weird dead things on the front lawn - look like a cross between a rat and an ugly mole - short tails - that my cats killed... are they voles?!

I also have small human voles aged 9 and 11 but they are not well trained yet... They can't even make coffee!

hugs.gif

I have several human voles, a bit older and a bit younger than yours. They're trained for some tings; coffee isn't one of them. Little things like dishes, laundry, baby-sitting, etc. ;)

My voles are untrainable, commonly known as grandchildren. And, they are far from free.

I though the voles we train are supposed to train the grand-voles????
No, I've been a grandchild; far, far, far from free. =D

We have been playing merry ground with our broody.

She was on eggs.... None successfully hatched, we took out the eggs and stuffed four chicks, about two weeks old, under her. About every four hours we swapped out which four chicks she was taking care of because it has been so blasted cold, even with a heat lamp, I was worried the chicks would get too cold and die.

It took her awhile to really get into the mothering mood. She is doing better now, and it looks like the weather is getting warmer.
ya.gif

If it gets a bit warmer we will toss out a bunch more chicks and see how she does with them.
fl.gif

Soooooooo drum roll please, SO HAPPY! My first two sets of shipped eggs, I got about a 1/4 hatch rate,
sickbyc.gif
hugs.gif

Set number three, ALL except one sure acted like unfertilized eggs, but maybe they never did ANYTHING because most had bubbled air cells.
hu.gif
Anyway, the only egg that had any development at all, hatched PERFECTLY, totally unassisted, totally healthy navel, totally perfect (i.e. Two eyes).

Oh, on other news, for the first time in a long while we had an earthquake, epicenter close to our neighborly volcano, so about 18 miles away, scored an 5.8

I don't do earth quakes.
