What a day. Woke up to 2 chicken eggs and one quail! Those little minichickens are showing up my actual chickens.

Typing quickly before the "big one" gets to us

and we lose power. Already reporting a couple thousand to our north. We are rarely out for just an hour or two because of where we are.
I;m back, did you miss me?? Just had to check the weatherbug alert that was chirping at me. We are now in the severe warning, no kidding, but it's ok. I already locked up all the girls nice and snug and checked for any possible flying projectiles. Pa always keeps at least one of the generators ready to go and it's so warm we don't need to grab wood, so we're good to go. Got all the portables charged up and we run the tv, router, lights and stuff off one generator and if we are off for too long we fire up the bigger one for the fridge and freezers.
Glad to hear everyone had such a safe and fun 4th holiday!!!

Alaskan=know what you mean about missing the good fireworks. The one over lake Michigan from the Summerfest grounds down in Milwaukee used to be spectacular and if you could often see the ones from Chicago too.

oops! getting pretty noisy so I better run that extra pot of coffee. Have a blessed evening everyone!!!

Speaking of fried desserts...I had a deep-fried Oreo dipped in cream once.

My breach duckling hatched perfectly without help! Whew! He managed to get out of the egg much faster than any others, but then was WHIPED OUT! Poor dear! Finally, by this evening he is starting to look like a cute little duckling, and the rest of the "all ready pipped" are still just pipped! I think one of those waspipped last night!

I don't know why my Muscovy always hatch so slow!

Birthday extravaganza is over... I sure hope @chickisoup doesn't loose power....terrible to be without internet!

Here's where I drink my coffee when I wake up.

I need to make my next coop taller, and put a five-gal bucket in there so I can sit down with my hens.

i wish i could have a koi pond they are illegal in Maine...

Because it's such an amazing thing, the birth of the land of the free and the home of the brave- the place that many from the rest of the world now dream of coming to and others are willing to risk their lives to get to, it just deserves to be celebrated more than once!!!

It's sad the govt doesn't remember why this nation declared its independence; cofiscatory taxation, standing army, etc....

I'm working on getting turkeys! A friend of mine has a poult that's off color; if it's a tom they'll eat it, if it's a hen my friend'll give it to me.
Also, she's going to give me some turkey eggs to hatch.

I'm going in the other direction. I'm working on getting turkey eggs.

@TeaChick Thanks! The dentist went well. The no coffee did not! had a caffeine headache by the time I got back but couldn't have anything hot yet with my mouth frozen, but dark chocolate Ghiradelli chips made a good caffeine remedy. For medicinal purposes yo know.

I don't think I ever told you how easy it is to maintain a koi pond. Once you get it going it's not bad. The bigger the better, the deeper the better. Bigger and deeper actually help to maintain the water quality along with the plants and deeper gives the fish a place to go out of the reach of predators ( ie: coons.) When I had my big one it was 6 x12x4ft deep and I built a 3 1/2 foot high waterfall. I emptied out 10-20% of the water each month. (More in August due to the heat) and checked ph 1x per week. As long as I kept up with it it was easy. If you let it go it can become troublesome but usually only takes a day to clean up. There are so many good books out there if you decide to build one. It can get pricey though. Good luck if you build one!
