Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Morning
Cold but no frost!

Boy does my coffee taste good this morning!
I think the tomatoes are probably a loss this year (again). As all you garden folks know, even if there's no frost, if the temp drops to 50oF or lower stuff stops growing and it takes a while for tomatoes to start up again. They were way behind this year anyway and we only have maybe 4 or 5 growing weeks left. We have had a year or two where the growing season stretched into September so maybe this year

, but then you start running into the problem of shorter days and the sun not getting high enough in the sky. Such is the down side of living in the beautiful northwoods.

Well, should be warm enough to let girls and chicks out so I better grab my coffee mug and get outside. They REALLY squawk at me when I'm late! Spoiled chooks

Morning everyone! On my second cup of coffee and having toast with homemade apple butter! I only have 3 jars of it left. I need fall to get here so I can make more before I run out!
Ooooooooooh, glad you reminded me! Apple butter on my English muffin, yes! off to the canning closet to grab a fresh jar before I go outside

Hmm, I might have to sneak over to the neighbors and steal some of their sourdough. That doesn't look too difficult. I've never looked into making them myself, somehow the boiling in water seemed to me like a bit of a too complicated process, but maybe I should try it.

They are easy to make. Like a lot of things, it takes more work the first time but then it becomes easy over time.

Let em know how they turn out.

I started my first starter in 1984. I started baking these bagels shortly after that. I have added asiago cheese to the tops and have made another version with cinnamon and raisins.

It is a good basic recipe all by itself though.

My current favorite is Wild Yeast Baguettes:

I have lost track of the dead and near dead trees, elm, oak and black walnut......enough firewood for three or four winters....I will wait until after the first frost and the ticks are sleeping to begin this years cutting...the ash trees still look healthy but there is a pest that kills those "on the way".

Which knife did you buy for your processing?

This one was threatening to fall and has been dying for years. I think waiting until the ticks are asleep before cutting. <hands on hips emoticon>
I have a Mora fishing knife. They call it this: "Fishing Comfort Fillet 090" and describe it as "Short filleting knife with a blade of stainless steel"
It's a dream to process with; I'm looking for a different way to kill them though. I like putting them in the killing cone, but the throat cutting....I close my eyes and turn my head (after placing the knife and making sure the knife's path is clear).

In my house it wouldn't be right if the animals didn't all have issues. I have a Pomeranian named Princess that I believe is ocd. :0

Celestial Seasonings is the camomile that I have right now.
I know what you mean. I'm thankful it's just Snoodle and my Orpington cockerel right now.

An ocd Pomeranian, lol
