Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

I have read of seven year droughts....how long has yours lasted?
We are going into year 4--California, according to geological records, has had 10 year droughts.

Please God No!

Yep.... I had my well pump go out last year and while the Well guy was replacing it I asked him about the wells in my area..... Down a hundred feet in most places. My well is 450 feet deep the water column he says was approximately 350 feet originally.... Now down to 250.... the aquifer here depends on snow... we didn't get ANY last year. And scant amounts last year. The column is about six inches in diameter..... So right now at 250 feet it holds about 1500 gallons. The pump is set above the bottom of the well so it doesn't suck sand... (what killed the other one) So I estimate I have about 1000 gallons before the pump saver switch goes off. The well itself is a slow producer anyway so the recovery time is Hours.... So I had to be very careful any way.... now I have to be extra careful.

Ihavent had my coffee this morning so my figures may be bogus.... but the desperation behind them is Legit.

My last name is Dixon.... But the family nick name is "The Frogs"..... Mom and dad were MR and MRS Frog....

All came from some confusion from my son when He was about four. Dad always teased him about being a little frog....
MY grandma and grandpa were Betty and Fred... so I am a single parent and when I would go to work we were alternating days between my Mom and MY grandma.....

Both of them are short.... and have curly hair..... and wear glasses. When my son asked where we were going Just saying Grandmas house wasnt doing it for him.... When I tried to describe the grandmas to him.... Well jsut say that wasnt working for him either....

So in an emphatic voice he solved it all..... "Are we going to Grandma Frogs or Grandma Freds house mom." In one sentince he changed the whole family dynamic....

A very long time ago I was told....San Diego has a 7 year imbedded in an overall 20 year cycle.... When we moved here in 67 the 20 year cycle was peaking and we got around 25 ish inches.... Normal rain fall here is between 12-15 inches. Right now we are in about year five of the seven year super dry .... But truely its been the driest on record here. So we will see if the 20 year kicks in soon.... Normally the rain comes from the artic rolling down the coast...

El Nino or La Nina has a lot to do with it... Which refers to ocean temperatures. I hear the weather guys talking about us being due for one of em... I forget which..... Um El Nino is the one that brings rain in the Winter

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Niño_Southern_Oscillation

Its all soo confusing.... I just know the pacific ocean is a cold ocean down to Baja.... when it warms up we get rain.

I think this link below is the more accurate

Hope All of California gets rain!! And I hope your well holds up too!!!!!

Sorry for sucjh a long post. I'm on my computer and it's so much easier to get carried away since my posts don't get lost in cyberspace like on my phone! Everyone have a great night! And a great weekend too!

We are getting rain this week. We've had more this year than we have for a while. Temps dropped. High in 50/60s today. I have to suck down a little coffee, get dresses and our family is doing a 5k at 8:00. I am hoping the rain holds off for a bit. I really don't want to be wet and cold.

I love the truck roof on your coop Alaskan! And I am wishing for rain for CA and cooler temps too. My oldest daughter lives in LA and they are melting.

I love this thread on BYC - so much nicer and funnier than facebook. Thanks for making me smile. So I tried the kinder teacher approach with my one baby chick and the mean girls and it worked! They all stay together now in the big run so I don't have to separate them anymore and keep rebuilding that chicken tractor. 7 hens, one 4 month old bantam, one baby chick (8 days old) and one bunny in the big coop and run.

Life is good and better with this coffee

:hugs
