Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Alaskan, have the first snows arrived yet? Your summer is over, right?

It was 69o here this morning - looooovely! I keep trying to see how much I can get done as early as possible. As the heat climbs, I get caught between sweltering outside, coming in to cool down, and having to get wrapped up because my sweat-soaked self is freezing at 78 air-conditioned degrees!

I'm sorry, I don't know which thread is yours. I hate it when i don't know why a chicken dies. I get paranoid something is going to sweep thru my flock and kill everyone

I haven't gotten the nerve to start incubating eggs yet but now I wish I had shoved a few under my broody.

My thread is in my signature, "TeaChick's Chicks".
Yeah, that's the long and the short of it.

I started with a homemade 'bator. Then I started trying to make a small cooler-bator from a friend work (no such luck). I'm going to build another box-ubator.
Plus, DH is going to get me a Brinsea Advance in a couple of months. =D

Totally me too! My #3 set of ducklings just hatched, and they were NOT as good as set 1 or 2. I think the problem is that the $&%# eggs had twelve thousand different due dates... So the humidity has had too many ups. (I am thinking I also need to work on improving the nutrition of my breeders... For next year)

Anyway, this last set, two were breach, and two that hatched fine (not breach) ended up passing after about two days. The last two that hatched don't look all that great either.... Not sure if they will make it either. I did get 8 very healthy ones though.

Remember, this set of perpetual hatching is because something scared my ducks half to death, and they all abandoned their nests simultaneously, and ALL of those eggs then had to be crammed into the incubator. Looked at the last two that hatched, that don't look so great...I wonder if it is an infection thing. All of those chickens and then ducklings hatching and then climbing over and pooping all over the still incubating eggs.....had NOT been good for cleanliness. I am almost tempted to toss out the last 5 duck eggs that are in there, so that I can scrub the entire thing out! Maybe I will see how wiggly they are tomorrow, and decide from there. Sad.

I just lost all the eggs I had set. Too much temperature fluctuations; when the AC kicks on, the "incubator" (read small cooler-bator that I've had to modify and adjust the living daylights out of) kicks off.

I'm going back to the cardboard box-ubator that worked before!!!

8 very healthy ones isn't bad. That's a hatch rate of about 50%, right? Better than 0%!!! =)

I agree with waiting to see how wiggly they are!!! It is sad, but just take a 24-hour break from incubating and clean your incubator(s) really well, then pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again. =)

Welcome @BunnyTheSlayer !!!!!

Way too much to catch up! So sorry @TeaChick !

I hope things start looking up. I wish I had more time to read your thread! I wish I had a couple of clones to free up my schedule! ! ! Thanks, Hon! I could use a couple of clones too. My DD and I did the math and we'd need at least nine of me working full-time to do everything I need to get done in a week.

Good luck to everyone hatching!!!

More chickies! In a couple of weeks I'm supposed to get a Frizzle chick or 2 or 3 hehehe! Excited! I ended up with a Cochin Bantam Frizzle by "accident" when I first bought chicks. DH went in there looking for a dozen RIR pullets, and came out with all they had left, which was 5 "RIR" (turned out to be gold Comets), five white Leghorns, and one "Special Breed" (which they discounted, so we didn't pay anymore for her than the rest). When she started growing leg feathers, we thought she might be a rooster. Then I found out on here that she's a CBF, and then she stopped growing, and I found out what "Bantam" meant. =D

Have had a very busy week. And this weekend I have been working on finishing the Chicken Run!! Yay!

Only a few more things to take care of and it will be finally all closed in and predator proof! Then I can paint and tweak the inside with re-movable dividers!

I have also been treating my EE Naome (she was" No Name" for quite awhile when I first got her) she has vent gleet.

so far so good but if all else fails I will have to give her some Medistatin. Extra $$ that I don't really have right now.
Time for some Zzzzz so I can get an early start before we get t hot and humid tomorrow.

Have a good night and everyone enjoy their coffee in the morning!
Yay!!! about finishing the coop/run!!! =D

Sorry about Naome! Hope she's better soon!
Yes, Zzzzzz sound good!!!

Mmmmmm coffee!!!

It is no fun having to treat our flock for any bug..
I added a extra scoop to grind for coffee this morning.. But now having a beer.. We will be brewing this winter.. Do any of ya all brew & give the spent grains to your flock?? We started a new thread.
