Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

I was just looking at Marans eggs on ebay. Bad me, very very bad me! But, some of them are so dark, so much darker than the ones I have........

I told child #2 to stand in front of me and repeat three times "no egg buying until January", but he first said "no egg buying until December" and then he said "no egg buying until next week"!!!!

Sheesh, I guess my minions aren't as well trained as I thought.

I think you mean that they're EVEN BETTER TRAINED than you thought.

Although, your spouse would probably agree with how you phrased it.

They know that the time you spend tending to the 'bator is away from time thinking up assignments for them.

The darkness of brown color is determined by a combination of between 9 and 11 genes. See how dark the Pene eggs are?

I want Penes!!! And I want green eggs....Must figure out how to get EEs or Americanas........hmmmmm

Lol I'm the one that had a hard time getting out of bed.

I'm the morning person in my marriage (me and half the minions) and DH is the night owl (him and the other half of the minions); it always takes him forever to get out of bed (well, he does alright if he has to get out of bed, and he can do what he absolutely has to do like drive and work, but don't try to get an intelligible sentence out of him before the morning hits double digits).

How old are the voles? My minions are all old enough, but when work is mentioned they tend to disappear.

On a lighter note, one of my roos just got a lifetime pardon on anything.

He chased the daughter away!!!! She liked her sleep to much to stay. I always loved to hear roos crow but she decided a 4:30 am wake up call didn't work for her.

Don't get me wrong I love my children but I think at 30 one should be able to live on her own by now.

My minions are pretty well trained.

They are expected to do all chores plus one hour of hard labor a day. After that, if I want more work, they will work, but if I want them to work happily then I must bribe them. Usually food works, or internet, or a promise of no work for the rest of the day.

They actually prefer to do their work with no parental involvement.

I'm working on getting mine trained to this level.  The problem I'm having is there are so many of them that I need them to come to me and say, "I just finished [insert whatever I told them to do here], Mom." (preferably with a smile on their face, but the smile is not a requirement).  Anyway, how do you get over this hump in the training process???

Minions that hide from me get more work. They are not very well trained in the coming to ask what they should do next, I usually yell for them. But they do know that bad things happen if they don't show up when I yell.

I am very "carrot and stick" with my kids. A favorite punishment is making them run driveway loops. But, if they are working hard they get almost constant small rewards, like one gummy bear every five minutes. My kids are ages 15 to 6.

My minions were OK trained until that fateful day they turned 18 and became MEN. I have tried to explain life to them but they are still predominately in the stage " that they know it all". One day they will thank me, same as I did to my parents.

@Alaska
I need a minion to tell me no more chooks.... Been looking at bators on eBay all day. I was going to wait till I got a broody but I'm not sure I can wait.

Quote: I have Partridge Penedesenca, Arkansas Blue egg layers(Blue eggs in the picture), Pinkish beige are from Pita Pintas and the olive colored eggs are from Cream Legbar x Crele Pene crosses.

I really like those chickens.

Howdy folks!

Wow! It's been quite a while since I have been on this site, much less on this thread. It's been a very crazy & life-altering few months.

I was pretty sick for a while, then I was diagnosed with cancer on June 27th. I'm in my late-20's, so it certainly came as a shock. Everything in my life has changed so dramatically, and so quickly. Though it is hard sometimes, it's a beautiful place to walk, because it has made me really look at myself, my priorities, my habits, etc. It has caused me to make some pretty awesome changes.

I'm not posting this for sympathy, but I love sharing how my life has changed. I see this as a blessing, not a curse.

But I'm so happy to be back on this thread!!

I have missed you all!!

Glad to have you back!
What changes have you made? Are they helping your prognosis?
Ones outlook is important. No matter what we are going through.
I have not always looked on the brighter side of the street while treading down poo lane.

It is difficult to see the silver lining of such situations. You are to be commended.
(And I do feel sympathetic anyway, because it is still a bummer.)

Thanks GoodEggs!

The biggest changes I've made so far:

Improving Diet: I've become a vegetarian on a high Alkaline diet. I've cut out all processed foods & all refined & processed sugar. I eat mostly raw fruits & veggies. My only cooked meal is at night. I eat complex grains like spelt & kamut. I use just a little honey in my coffee, and I've had to cut back my coffee intake, due to the caffeine (and we all know decaf isn't really coffee, lol).

Relieving Stress: I'm selling my house. I've got a contract on it and I expect to move within 6 weeks or less. I've put in my notice with my 2nd part-time job, which is a very stressful job in customer service. I'll be living with a friend and working part-time so I have more time to rest and allow for healing.

My faith in the Lord is what keeps me going. Without Him, I'd fall apart dealing with all of this.

Welcome back GAfarmgirl! I also went through a health scare last year so I know what your going through! As a fellow southerner I'm happy your doing better and taking care of yourself! I changed my diet almost like you have but I couldn't cut out meat totally so we are just eating it smarter now.
