Hi Peeps
having my evening cup of joe and smoking my pipe to relax after a fun filled day of taking my 90 year old mother to the doctor and then grocery shopping, I'm worn out.
Nobody answered my question : Do chickens eat ants?
I put some kitchen leavings in the maggot master 5000 that I built waiting to see if the black solider flys will march in lay eggs and make some maggots or as my southern girl friend calls them Iggots.LoL
I know I'm going to pay for having this coffee but I want it, I need it and I'm gonna have it!
Sure hope theres a good movie on at 2 or 3 o'clock because I'm sure I'll be awake to watch it.

Chickens will eat ants--not that many.

What Ronott said.... ants have chemicals for self defence that taste nasty.... But Chickens would go for ant larva.... I have seen those soldier fly buckets what a great idea...

Speaking of elderly family members.... My Grandma is 98 I just got back from a similar trip.....

Thanks for making me feel better.LoL
My Grand mother would be 119 years old if she were still alive but she died back in 77 at 82.
I remember watching the men walk on the moon with her, she looked at me and said " I came from the days of the horse and buggy and now I'm watching men walk on the moon". I've never forgotten that.
In fact none of my grands lived beyond 82 my mother is the first to make it this far the miracles of modern medicine.
I thought I had it bad being in between my girlfriend and my mother but you definitely have my sympathy. LoL
I think ants are of the species Formica and secret formic acid as a defense probably why the chicken don't eat many.
The better question would be what would happen if a chicken drank some coffee?LoL
If anyone has the answer to that let me know because their not going to get any of mine!

Our chickens seem to eat ants too. I had two small decorative pine resembling plants in front of the porch, they were planted in small pots. They died from over watering at some point, so I just took them aside a bit into the forest and forgot about them. A bit later, I noticed them and went to clear them away, but they had become the new lodgings of some ants. A couple weeks later, I saw the chickens picking through them.

Last night we sent two broad breasted turkey off to get ready for freezer camp in exchange for some roosters! I love to barter on poultry! I will get to cook and eat one of my own home grown turkey this year! I am very excited!

I read that chickens have one near sighted eye and one far sighted eye, and they just use the eye they need for the job that needs doing.
Have any of you read that? I never know what to believe any more off of the internet.
I need chicken eyes.
Everything is blurry this morning. Off to go do my far sighted job.
I think I'd rather not. The coffee did not work this morning.
I even checked the lid to make sure it wasn't decaf.

I had a friend who was a pilot, he wore contact lenses and had one that was fitted so he could see close up and one fitted for far.
He said it worked pretty good.
Needless to say I never flew with him I was always afraid he would use the wrong eye and we would crash into a mountain or something. LoL
I guess if that's the way chickens vision works
Then I'm sure their brains are wired for that.
I know our brains aren't I have a hard enough time just seeing with regular glasses.LoL
