It depends on the breed of Duck. Like chickens, some are for meat and some are for eggs. Some are for both meat and eggs.

You can look it up--I saw a comparison once ant it is amazing--some lay eggs year round while some only lay in the spring.

Mine are Muscovy which I also understand are a very different breed.

I am just too soft hearted (and lazy) to send any of mine to freezer camp. I have no problem letting someone else do it but until the zombie apocalypse comes, I will be rehoming instead of processing.

Yes, the Muscovy are VERY light dependant, so mine are now done for the year.

Last year I had maybe 10 eggs from them about three weeks after the sun started to increase (so mid January, and still very dark), but then they realized that was a stupid idea...very cold and dark still, so they stopped and then starte up, at almost an egg a day when we hit proper spring...I think April.

I think swan would be AWESOME!!!

Poor little Eppie.

I've noticed I have seen people say red sex links are prone to disease--I think that may be true. Today I should get paid and will get some antibiotics, I'm pretty sure its just respiratory problems. Either way, she's one of my favorites and likes to be held, I don't want her to die.

I hope she gets well! No fun when the chickies get sick!!!
