Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Good morning - hot coffee anyone? 6 inches of new snow overnight, door to chicken run won't close for the snow, emergency measures in place, hose that I drained to fill the horse trough outside is frozen! Carried many buckets...

That is why I try to make sure that all of the chicken run doors, etc. are dutch doors. So, the bottom part can stay closed after the snow comes and things freeze solid. I try to make them the right height, so that you can step over the bottom part, without too much trouble.

Of course, as the snow keeps coming down, that step over the bottom half of the now immobile door gets smaller and smaller....until I start to worry that the top part of the door will start to have problems opening and closing.

Coffee is good this morning.

I got lucky as far as hanging the door on my first coop/pen project, I could have had it open toward the chickens and never been able to feed the chicks after the first snow until the spring thaw
