Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

I've been reading this post a couple days. I love my coffee & I liked the name. These days my only vices are coffee & chickens. Sunday morning coffee. The house is quite & I can enjoy the peace and read these forums.

Welcome to BYC. There can be a lot worse vice than chickens and coffee. You must be a mighty good person. There is nothing quite like peace and quiet.

So, I have been trying to live a more alkaline lifestyle, and coffee is a no no. I tried green tea, but you know, coffee is just way more satisfying than green tea. IJS as I start on my 2nd cuppa coffee with caramel sauce melted in that I made last night.

1cup sugar
1/2 cup honey
Bring to 300f

Add 3/4 c of heavy cream and 2 tbls of butter Bring up to 250f
Take off heat add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon sea salt and 2 more tablespoons of butter. Stir well, pour in jar and enjoy.

I sold 2 more pullets this weekend, but gainrd a 5 weeks old bantam chocolate orpingtons chick. The bf gave me the ok to get a few more ducks for eggs, just not muscovy and they have to be quiet. Any clues as to what good ducks would be to add to my egg layers? Muscovy are more for meat for us.

Things have thawed out, and I got new straw and hay to put out today. With the snow melted, everything is so muddy. I'm just waiting for a volunteer to arrive that wants to help me with homesteading chores.

I get nice Sage Green eggs from my mallards. They are about a large hen egg size. Right now I am getting 3 nice eggs fron my 4 hens 1 year old.

Welcome! Where are you from? What's your flock like?
Hi Campingshaws! Thank you. I'm originally from the Monroe, Louisiana area but I've been in Mississippi for longer than my husband and I thought we would be. I lived in Shreveport about 5 years.

I added my flock description to my signature just a few minutes ago. I purchased the pekin ducks a week ago and am really enjoying them. Our property shares a really big pond with 2 neighbors, so the ducks will have a good time once they are grown.

How much rain are you getting your way? We are forecasted for rain all week, and we are almost floating over here.

I'm ready for dry sun shining weather. My poor girls have a muddy pen. It is well drained. It's just been too much rain & sleet. My girls free range during the day so that helps.

Tell me about your flock.

Ugh, Mississippi. We lived there several years, about half an hour south of Jackson. Gorgeous country, but the people where we lived were so ugly and hateful. I was glad to come back home. Husband's from Iowa, so he's still in foreign land. :lau

Haha, rain. It is what it is. You get used to it. ;)

I have a small flock, 13 hens and 1 roo. I have 5 (four hens and the roo) speckled sussex, and the rest are either auction or feed store mixes: two "color project cull" orpingtons, an "australorp" and her tomboy sister, an FBMC, and four white hens that lay great big brown eggs.

Happy Birthday to Deb's mom @perchie

LOL... Today is moms birthday... and we survived the celebration yesterday. We went to a local restaurant called Jimmies. A bit nicer than Dennys food wise. My son was a great help and he actually joined us...

I tease mom about being a crow in a past life because she loves anything shiny.... I got her a purple glass vase with some shiny decorations stuck in it... ... And a Cube shaped Birthday balloon.

I also promised to take her to Joes Crab Shack sometime this week... she and I can walk a bit further than Grandma can And Grandma does NOT like ""Fish""....
