THOUGHT THIS WAS A GREAT REMINDER FOR ALL YOU VERY WISE CRITTER
FOLKS TO PASS ALONG TO THOSE WHO NEED TO BE INSTRUCTED
Ironic that the rabbit in that picture is a Holland Lop, with a maximum showable weight of 4 lbs.

House cats generally weigh 6 lbs or more - a rabbit that is only half the size of a cat doesn't seem all that BIG to me.

Most of what is said there is reasonably accurate, but I really wish people who feel so strongly about these things wouldn't try so hard for sensationalism. It tends to make the whole message (and the messenger) look a bit unreliable. . . . .

Rabbits generally don't make good pets for children, but in almost 30 years of breeding rabbits, if I have learned anything, it's that there are exceptions for just about every "rule" out there (I've known lots of people with snuggly rabbits - they can't all be lying). My take on this is a person should always do their research before acquiring a pet, whatever type of animal it is, and be sure that its needs will mesh with the needs of the home considering it.

OOPS, sorry. Didn't mean this to offend. Just showing my ignorance I guess. I really don't know much about bunnies, just what I do know is many (to me even one is too many), cute baby animals, chicks, ducks, bunnies, even puppies and kittens, are given as Easter presents and then wind up in pounds and rescues-or worse- when they aren't cute anymore. (in my defense, I really didn't make this,I copied that off FB. Maybe you should make one that's more accurate? )

My mom wanted to get my son a rabbit when he was about five.... I had flash backs of having claw marks raking my arms and stommach from when someone handed me a rabbit when I was a child..... I said Um that would be a no.

Unfortunately she had already told my son.....

moms kind of passive aggressive I had already told her no before hand. After working in a pet store for about three years I knew Guinea pigs were the perfect pet given the right circumstances... So I deflected it to guinea pigs... What a hoot they were.

never had a guinea pig... but I know people get impressively attached to them.

My baby sister has a bunny for her kids. They love it... they dress it up in doll clothes and push it around in a doll baby stroller.

Oddly enough, they have NOT killed it or broken it.....

and it has been nice and hasn't clawed them or anything.

Had coffee of porch this a.m. for the 1st time in months and spring peepers are screaming!! They started a couple of days ago and haven't had time to sit just to think so it was great. And on the getting bb animals for easter pets I am a huge supporter of DON'T do it unless u, the parent or whatever, are prepared to take over care of said animal for SEVERAL more years(and buns need spayed/neutered also unless you have a highly perfect speciman that could be used for breeding..HIGHLY perfect)I love my adult animals and they are enjoying the front porch with me(they don't get coffee tho!)

Happy St. Patricks day!!!

Good coffee this morning.

Who ever is out there doing the broody dance for me - Thanks. I have a girl who has settled in. Been steady on the nest since Saturday so today she gets to keep her eggs. She's a first timer so we'll see how she does. I will be home starting Thursday to keep an eye on things so I am excited to watch her sit!

Two more days of work!

@chickisoup I wasn't offended, and I hope I didn't offend you. It's just that, after breeding rabbits for so long, I have gotten tired of being villified and seeing the animals get villainized because of the ignorance and irresponsibility of other people. I have known plenty of rabbits that were wonderful pets - I have even had a few that I bred a couple of times, then re-homed because I felt they deserved an owner that would give them more attention than I could. But I also show people a scar on my wrist that was put there 14 years ago by the bite of a rabbit that was nothing short of vicious - I don't kid myself about what they are capable of.

IMO, pets make lousy gifts - unless the person is expecting it, and has educated themselves enough to know what to expect from it. After all, we've all heard the warning about the proverbial "gift horse," right?

I got a pair for a gift as a child. I loved them. The boy got out of the hutch and ran away like that month. But my girl (Bubbles... a NZW) lived a long, very fat and spoiled, life in my care. So sometimes it works out. But I was also not 5. I was 10.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! (Anyone having Irish coffee?)

I'd prefer Bailey's in mine...but, alas, not today as I'm still mired in doing the taxes and need a non-fuzzy head to clear this wallow of papers and receipts. This first part of the morning when the coffee is hot, it's quiet and everyone else is asleep is divine...it's like total *me time* without having any hoops to jump through or obligations to attend to in the present moment. Yeah, it all can wait. There's deep tranquility to be enjoyed in this mug.
