Rain here too - I want a re-do on my weekends. Why can't it just rain while I am at work and be perfect while I am at home? Someone needs to fix that!

totally stressing...

Stupid first time hatching on order... and OF COURSE the number of chicks I need haven't yet popped out..

(yes, I set extras... maybe not enough extras... too much pressure... too much stress..... BLAH!)

Anyway, some have hatched, here is a picture:



I didn't look it up ahead of time... color charts...

I have a pure bred Marans in there.. the one on the far right with some white on the face..

the olive eggers are almost solid black (they are 3/4 Black Copper Marans)

and then I am selling mixes, white leghorns, dark brown leghorns, and Dominiques covered by two roosters, a Dominique and a dark brown Leghorn.

I didn't look up color/dominance etc. before hand... the Dominique cuckoo color is clearly dominant... All of the Dominique eggs hatched chicks that look like Doms, and then lots of the Leghorn chicks look like Doms too. The one Golden Penciled Hamburg egg I accidentally put in there hatched looking like a Dom too!

Not a single chick hatched looking like a brown leghorn, and only 3 hatched white.

Where do you find dominance charts? I hatched four babies last weekend:

All chicks are half speckled sussex. Sparkle came from an australorp egg. Belinda came from a speckled sussex egg. Kung Pow and Szechwan have the same mother, French black copper marans. It was so funny to me that they came out two and two from three different hens.

It is wild....

I think it looks like the Cuckoo color on the Dominique trumps most everything else... so all Dominique eggs hatched chicks that look like Dominiques.. no way to tell if their father was the dark brown Leghorn.

@Puddin Fluff They're in Van Buren. It's DSO's brother and wife n family. But they always call me DSO's wife! Lol! We would love to go visit but DSO'S job doesn't give much time off in summer.

Ooohh the house smells like COFFEE. The kid finally made the last bag of Sumatra in the Coffee Toddy....

I am soo tempted to make a small cup.... the place I go because its cheap I have to doctor it up with Creme De Minth just to make it taste palletable.

this stuff is Sooo good all it needs is a little cream and If need be some Sweet N Low.

Oh yay for you... Up at the house I have a coffee maker that is awesome. Bought it at a second hand store up there. One of those ones where the water goes into a container thats inserted in the back of the maker... then you can putz around with the coffee and filter. Its wrapped up in a trash bag.

Shh I am going to try to play hooky tomorrow. Off to go get some linnens and a couple of pillows and PJs to keep up there.... Goin home... burned out right now I need a taste of the desert.
