Yes, the headaches from not having coffee can be harsh. Coffee is a stimulant because of the caffeine in it. I am on my second mug right now. Because I drink so much coffee. I can drink it anytime of the day, evening, middle of the night with no issues with sleeping. In fact I think because the tree is so much in my system it actually makes me sleepy sometimes. Anyone else have this issue or is it just this wierdo?

You know that everyone's favorite drug for treating ADHD, Ritalin, is a stimulant, right? Seems crazy - give a stimulant to someone who is hyper, and it calms them down . . . . Well, caffeine often works the same way. I sometimes wonder if a lot of caffeine addicts might wind up diagnosed with ADHD if deprived of their favorite addiction.

My son had trouble focusing, not because he was hyper, but because he would start thinking about something deeply when he should have been doing math or English. So, I gave my 10 year old son...

bad mom *sigh* here... a Clariton and a cup of coffee.
He still grew to six foot three. If it stunted his growth, then good thing. We live in the land of ceiling fans.

He just graduated with all these gold stickers on his diploma and thinks math is worth thinking about. (I never ever would have expected that)
The weird thing I was told about ADD was that kids are helped by stimulants but adults with ADD are hindered by them.

Without my coffee I do not get hyper I get... what is the technical term for 'rock like'.? dead, but breathing.

And carrot juice gives me a quick energy rush, but It doesn't last like coffee.

My grandfather would recite this,"One must not give children coffee, tea, or ale.''

It was something he read in a book, and the 'ale' part made him laugh.
But when I spent the weekend with them I would be reminded that I should not have coffee tea or ale.
So giving it to my son felt evil.

Grandpa would also burst out with, "On the shores of Gitche Gumee , of the shining big sea water- stood Nikomis..." and then he'd trail off and tell me he had to memorize the thing for old Mrs. Hardgrave in third grade and somebody was going to have to listen to it.
He was in his late seventies and was still annoyed that he had to memorize something that was only of use to annoy my grandmother with.

I love my coffee! I have it at night with dessert sometimes and never have a problem sleeping, maybe it's the full warm belly that helps me drift right off! :D
