Part of chicken math too is the justifying or counting for people who WANT to know... So Chicks dont count as chickens... Cockrels either because they are going to freezer camp... Oh and the hen in the garage dont count because shes got a boo boo....

Stuff like that. I am still amazed at where you live and you are able to have roosters.

I've seen another form of chicken math where you start with egg production (chicks, roosters and non laying hens don't count b/c a farmer doesn't feed an animal that doesn't produce), subtract the eggs you use (only the ones you sell count), divide that by something and then round down and a few other mathematical acrobatics, and viola that itty bitty number is the reason for the 15 bags of feed you buy every week.
We don't sell eggs, so I was at 0 almost immediately, therefore, I had to kind of make up my own chicken math.

I mean when my hubby asked how many am I down to, I do not include eggs, do not include chicks, well if it does not lay and egg I usually dont count. So when he tells me I have that many in Roosters alone I play dumb. Really I grumble, those crazy hens always hiding their eggs so they can hatch them.....and I procede to try and count them as they are bobing their sweet heads up and down in the garden and say I give up, I can not count them. I am down to 100. I guess, that is... I I dont count the eggs, the chicks, and such. Hey I just gsve away around 100 just recently because I did not want to take them to a flock swap and expose them to getms so I made sure I gave them away and their were no other chickens around when I handed them over. Met up with people during the week at different TSCs and gave them the chickens.

Yup, that's similar to the method I use w/ my DH when he asks how many chickens I have.
He knows I like to stay up over three dozen, at least. And I know that we need at least a dozen producing females to keep up with our family's egg usage (with a small surplus to get us through the winter, [and to allow me to hatch whenever the itch strikes...shhhhhhh]). It's a mutual ignorance of exactly how many chickens we have. lol
