I am sorry for what your going thrue, I lost a couple of chicks and spent money I didn't have to buy medicine but nowhere close to what you spent to top it all off  animal control is making me give up my dogs because I cant afford to register them, they want revenue but I can only afford to feed them

So after spending over $100 in medicine for mY chickens in the last 3 weeks, I'm seriously considering curing my chicken flock and seriously downgrading in size. This is getting rediculous... Maybe I'll switch to ducks

dont do it. I am taking care of my son's while he is in the hospital again. If it were not for the fact he enjoys them they would be gone!

Chicks got cocci, adult flock needed deworming, and then microplasma popped it's ugly head, and the medication for that is $$$

I'm so sorry, especially for your dogs. I'm having to get rid of one of my dogs because the landlord said one "looked aggressive"

What a time of it you are having!

The MG problem may well go away after the other stuff is gone.

If you do cull, you could Start up again next Year but go the hatching egg route. It is safer since not as many illnesses are spread through the eggs. Cocci may will still be there but you can be pro active by using corid(make sure you get the correct dosage--It is listed incorrectly in a lot of places) at the first sign of it.

Plan on worming at 16 weeks of age and then worm on a regular schedule or take a sample to a vet for a float check.

Just came across this thread and have to add my ramblings.
Every morning I jump on Backyard Chickens with my trusty cup-o-Joe next to me, clicking through threads gathering as much info on raising chickens as I possibly can. This has been my morning tradition since January!
I don't want to wake up and read or see whatever tragedies have unfolded in the news overnight, I just wanna sit here on a happy website sippin my coffee and enjoying the silence (until my kids wake up). So thank you, Backyard Chicken peeps, for making my morning routine a pleasant and informative one day after day

The MG was probably brought out of hiding by because of the worms and stress of having new birds being introduced. I won't cull them, but I have noticed that the hatched chicks are healthier. I have corid on hand as well.

Yes, in some places it has to be done 4 times a year.

yeah we have a mission bay in san diego also but it probably gets colder up in the bay area, we are just about all sun in san diego
