Six turkey eggs - Indiana

YAY! What Ms E said! I love our turkeys, and they are very easy to care for. Mine are pets too, but if they get mean, we will butcher them. So far, that has only happened to one tom, our first.

Now we have royal palms, a blue slate, and some mixed wilds. They are soo sweet. The smaller ones will sit on my lap for hours!

Carol....how did you get your Palms to be tamed? I have a pair....I try to get them to eat from my hand, they just run....and my tom is trying to gobble gobble already...at 17 weeks I think. He is Sooo cute! We call ours, Adam and Eve. LOL Our first turkeys.

Well...we've handled them from day one. We take them out & hold & pet them. When they got bigger and we put them in the barn, they are naturally curious, so then again we would handle them. Of course we talk to them too, and make little turkey noises, like "Meep, Meep".
I know its crazy, but I do spend alot of time with my birds...it seems to help.

I am out there every day a few times, talking to them and whistling to them. The tom, Adam will make a peeping sorta whistle to me, and I whistle back to him. He comes over to me to see what makes that noise, but if I even think of reaching near them, they take off. I have offered treats...not even close. They waite till I drop it and back away. Sigh....i wanted friendly turkeys...guess they will have to stay in the pen. Maybe by next year, when they are older, they can roam a little.
