[Elite Silkies]

So, I am assuming that when I get eggs from you emvickery I should use a Silkie Cockerel? I hope so because I do not have an extra pen for a sizzle rooster.

I hatched out several batches of sizzles this year. I bought hatching eggs from BYC member LuckyPickens. Sizzle chicks were hands down my best seller! I was selling the frizzled sizzle chicks for $8 each and I probably could have gotten $10. I still have three smooth feathered sizzle chicks left. I'm glad to see a sizzle thread on BYC because it's been hard getting information on this new breed.

When I was looking for information on breeding sizzles I was told by nearly everybody I asked to put a silkie roo or the hen to be silkie. Because.........................breeding 2 frizzled birds together will result in brittle feathers and it just becomes painful for the birds dut to so many broken feathers. So I chose to use a silkie roo since it seems all my frizzled silkies are hens

(lucky me right?) Anyway. the feathers are smoother and soft but still upturned. Or you'll get what I was told is a "Soft Sizzle" which is one that looks like a silkie but the feathers are still upturned.

I've been told different names for the 2 different looks. Soft sizzle and hard sizzle or rough sizzle and smooth sizzle. I keep all my "hard sizzles" and wait to see if they turn out girl or boy. So far they have all been girls. I've also been raising them for nearly 2 years so I am no pro. This is just my experience with them.

I had kept a couple that turned out different in my first sizzle bunch. One was a soft sizzle and another looked like it was mixed with polish. I sold those two back in July.

Everybody loves Noel's color. I'm hoping to get a couple more like her so I can make a pen with them and then MJ will be their roo. I've had so many requests for her eggs but since they're all in one pen I don't know who's laying which. I do know Elvis, Curly and Pricilla are laying. Noel has laid before but I don't think she is right now. She's just a pullet still but my first sizzles when they started laying they didn't stop except in winter. And only some stopped and the others where broody.

Just keep all the frizzled ones and you should, hopefully, have all girls. Thats what I do. I do have 1 that is a soft sizzle but she isn't in the breeding stock. She's in the house. The others will let her free range with them but WILL NOT allow her in the pen. She has a deformed face. One side is caved in and she's blind in that side. She was always the smallest one from the very start. While her hatch mates where outside roaming around she was inside keeping any lone chicks company. It took forever for her to grow her feathers. Her sisters where laying eggs while she was still getting feathers. So she's been pampered all her live by me. But she's grown up to be nice and fluffy. She don't have but a small crest but she looks twice her actualy body size she's so fluffy. I'm going to let her out to free range today. I'll let the partridge silkies out too today as long as the ladies have paid their rent today. lol

I got my sizzles from pamperpoulrty too.

2 black sizzled hens and 1 smooth rooster. That rooster has the longest crow in the barn. He will be moving in with a neighbor as soon as they get a coop built. I sold the other chicks, they were smooths. I had them in with a NN and have 1 NN sizzle in black, it is so stinking cute ! Also have 2 other black sizzled chicks, waiting for them to get old enough to determine the sex. Right now I have my hens with a blue splash silkie. I have eggs due to hatch end of this week and next.

Next I will put the girls with my silver laced polish rooster. Need some fun colors.

Also have 1 sizzle NN chick from dipsydoodledoo. I think that is her BYC name. I NEED to get pictures.... I was out all day building a new coop and cleaning & moving etc... Just ran out of time and daylight.

Post some pics please. I candled my eggs monday night after I got home from work. All of my eggs that I got from emvickrey are developing nicely. I had to toss 15 of my own eggs. Only a few of my white silkie X white frizzle cochin eggs are developing and a few eggs from my sultan hens crossed to either my splash,buff silkie roosters or blue partridge frizzle cochin rooster. But none of my splash silkie X splash frizzle cochin were fertile. Picked up 7 free silkie X cochin cross chicks and 5 serama chicks which may be silkied saturday. The mama hen looked like a birchen cochin and the lady said the daddy rooster was a white silkie.

I've got 2 bators full of silkie and sizzle eggs. My own mostly. I got some from Chicken Junkies that go in lock down on the 9th. I can't wait to see what they are. I know they're silkies but the colors are a surprise. The eggs aren't marked so it's kinda like Christmas. Only the gift unwraps itself.

I have a couple of broody's that I put to work too so there are more outside. I've got a snake stealing eggs and they happen to be out of the pen with the black silkies and they're my best chickens.
