Sizzles??????

OMG "Boop" is the prettiest Sizzle I've seen!

I just hatched my first sizzles/silkies and got 2 sizzles:

Thanks Christy for the info on how to put up a pic & I like your babies. Those are the variation I would refer to as frilkie sizzles. That would be frizzled silkie feathers from sizzle breeding – small s since they aren’t the hard feathers we are after on Sizzles (capital S) . Hopefully they are carrying the genetics to produce hard feathered Sizzles. I have a few of those silkie sizzles myself that I’m breeding back to smooth sizzles this generation. At least you already have the curl so if you can find a smooth sizzle roo to breed to you have a good shot at getting Sizzles.
We are currently working with the basic Silkie standard with the feather change of hard curly as opposed to silkie so that gives you some guidelines for color & structure, etc. Please consider checking out the Sizzle list. We are there to share info & try to structure our ideas on what Sizzles are so we can come up with a workable standard.

This is a paragraph from a letter I recently put on the Sizzle list. I am by no means the expert, it’s just my attempt to clarify the language of our project so we all know what each other is talking about.

FYI - for the sake of simplifying terminology I have started "labeling' my birds like this. This is just my system but, your welcome to make use of it if you find it helpful.

I call "proper" Sizzles - hard curled feathers & generally the rest of the Silkie traits as in the standard, Sizzles with a capitol S

The other variations, ie; smooth feathers with the other traits, silkie feathers with the other traits & curly silkie feathers with the other traits, I call sizzles with a small s. They would be "smooth sizzles", "silkie sizzles" & "frizzled silkie or frilkie sizzles". They carry the genetics (hopefully) to produce Sizzles with a capital S and are worth breeding back to by one of the other variations.

I always breed different variations to each other. I'm doing a lot of that this generation. Smooth to curly, silky to hard feathered. I'm working with the idea that once you've set your basics, Silkie standard type with hard curly feathers, it doesn't make sense to breed back to pure silkie anymore. That just seems to promote silkie feathered birds. I had more of those then I would have liked last generation. I even debated not breeding the silkie feathered sizzles I have kept but because they are F3, it is my hope that they are carrying the genetics to produce Sizzles if bred back to Sizzle roo. Guess I'll know more next fall!

I haven't tried to breed curly to curly. I still haven't figured out the genetics for that..even though Suze has tried to explain it (thanks Suze) and the info I have on it is conflicting so, ...I might try a few this year and see what I get but, not sure yet.

And that is why I'm trying to be more conscientious this year on records. I NEED to know what is producing what, not to mention that we will have to have records of our breeding programs if we ever hope to become a recognized breed.

Just more things to think about!!!

Oh SonoranSilkies, thanks ever so much for putting up Boops pic. All this comuter learnin is giving me gray hair..well, more gray hair!
But, I hate bein outsmarted by a plastic box so, I shall master it yet..some day!!

I'm really glad to see so many more folks taking an interest in Sizzles. What I'd like to know is who is selling them? What generation they are working on and what kind of standard they are using?

Funny, when you posted those pics I thought how identical our birds are and now I see we got them from the same person.
Mine hatched out on november 18.
They are the cutest little things. I have one that came out really red and then I have some that are a buff color and then that blue white (splash) color.
One of the buff colored ones has the biggest bouffant hairdo I have ever seen.
My husband and I were playing with them last night and he couldn't stop laughing at the one with the big poofy head.

Someone else posted a picture of a sizzle that looks to be a splash and mine looks exactly the same except mine has more feathers around her face.
