BriarPatchFarms; I lke your Website, and my 2 little girls just about LOST THEIR MINDS to see that somone is breeding chickens AND rabbits... My 4 yr old is a chic-a-holic (which is how I ended up with my current chicks!) and my 7 yr old is bonkers for bunnies!!
I am experienced with animals (a full-time Zookeeper by profession), but new to chickens... My original goal was to have 5 or 6 pet quality birds, plus a few fresh eggs, NOT to breed.
HOWEVER... if this lil' Sizzle grows up to be a lovely bird with a nice temperament, I may find it difficult to resist playing with genetics a bit... have not seen many Mille Fleur Sizzles out there (altho he/she MAY be a partridge, from what I've been told)!
Will definitely need help from experienced breeders and "genetic gurus", though!!
The people I got my hatching eggs from has some nice quality birds, and both of the parents of this chick are quite striking, especially the white silkie hen, so we shall see!!!!!!!!!!
This chick was actually a bit of beginner's luck... The white Silkies had been separated into a breeding pen for about 3 weeks, so figured that's what was in the eggs, but nope... SURPRISE... this little guy popped out!! And by process of elimination, we were able to easily figure out who "Daddy" was.
Maybe it's FATE that I am going to end up with more chickens than I ever intended... This silly little bird will probably grow up GORGEOUS, which will almost make me OBLIGATED to breed, right?
