I didn't think you were doubting me...no problem...

Mrs. AKBB here...

We have the Defender Model at home, and it works great. When we were both working up on the North Slope (there's lots of standing water on the tundra, and lots and lots and lots of skeetos) we had one of these things right outside the front door of our "office"... there was one day I cleaned that thing out so many times, I filled up three 1 gallon Ziploc baggies with carcasses. There's a basket with netting inside that traps the bugs, and when it's full we pull it out and zip it up in the baggie and put it in the feezer for an hour or so. That kills them, and then you can dispose of them without worry that they're still alive. It's less messy that way.

I wonder if there's some way you could get the word out that the gutters are a source of water for them. Maybe post flyers on the bulletin boards at the grocery stores?
Good luck!

We bought one of the big ones after it had only been out a couple of years. It did a really lousy job, for us. I think it was more expensive then, too. As thick as the mosquitoes were at the time, I could have caught more waving a fine fishnet through the air. We tried replacing the pellets, which aren't cheap, either and it still didn't work very well. We eventually just dumped it as a very expensive mistake.

Ms. AKBB-
Thanks for the link; I will look into it.

I've never been to Alaska, but I have fished and hunted in British Columbia. I'm sure it's the same; BC had skeeters the size of 747s and Black Flies who bit like sharks!

I admire your spunk!

Hey, the skeeter is the state bird up here!

Between them, the white-socks (little biting flies), and no-see-ums (microscopic biting flies) we're probably in the top 5 on the list of bug-dope consumption on the North American continent!!
Now if we could only get people to stop thinking that we live in igloos and mail is delivered by sled-dogs...

I use the incense sticks you see in every store. It doesn't have to be citronella, any scent will do. I just poke them in different areas of the yard and it keeps them away. Skeeters in Jersey - perfect together.

Oh of course you have to light them!

We put up a couple of bat boxes, and it really helped--only a few bats have moved in, but they do a good job of cleaning up the skeeters.

Hi, I live in skeeter central LOL! Even though we haven't had any rain in awhile here they are bad. During the day I have to have on pants & long sleeve shirt, sucks but is better than wearing skeeter spray.
I have fans going in my coops, it's the only way to keep them off the chickens. I have a really big coops & thankfully have electricity out there with 11 box fans going.I clean the fans often they get dirty quick.
I'm ready for fall, it's too hot!
