He is thriving in the house and loving his new fancy meals. He's eating and drinking better than he has in a long time. Every other night, my husband fills up the tub for bath time and plays lifeguard. It's really sweet. He seems to be getting a little more buoyant, and has started trying to dive under the water.@Alexc844 How is Skippy doing it's been a while since you updated?
The biting is a drake thing but females can do it too, You could try removing him for the bin while your cleaning and changing his food and water. When my drake who was raised by myself and dh bites me hard I flatten him on the ground on his belling and hold him there just like another drake would do. I don't hurt him just let him know I am in charge not him but I'd only do this if Skippy is outside of his bin. Might think of getting him a mirror that is bird safe so he can see himself this seems to really make them feel better about not being with a flock. And reminds him who he is.He is thriving in the house and loving his new fancy meals. He's eating and drinking better than he has in a long time. The only issue I am having now is his aggressiveness. We spend a lot of time with him, and it's not so much that he is afraid of us as it is him trying to attack us. I don't know if it is a game for him or if he's just being a punk, but when I reach my arm into his bin to clean it out, or change his water, feed him, etc, he will come after me. He hates rubber gloves (they really seem to upset him, lol), and I haven't really noticed any other scenario where he will actually come at me, other than when I am in "his" area. It obviously doesn't hurt or anything, it would just be nice if he DIDN'T do it, lol.
Thank you! I will try the mirror. He doesn't attack me outside of his bin, so maybe it's a territorial thing? The biting is a drake thing but females can do it too, You could try removing him for the bin while your cleaning and changing his food and water. I am so glad to hear how much better he is doing much better. Your doing great. Thanks for the update. If your weather is still decent try to take him out some during the day for his Vit D We all need it.
Might be plus he looks at you as a potential mate and they can be pretty rough on their females. lolThank you! I will try the mirror. He doesn't attack me outside of his bin, so maybe it's a territorial thing?
He's doing marvelous! His feathers look so much better, and he's becoming a little less aggressive. It's definitely a process, but there has been a lot of progress. He's a trooper!@Alexc844 How is Skippy doing?
